Despite the fact that the nation’s clean car standards have been delivering gas savings and healthier air, EPA Administrator Pruitt wants to weaken them, which will mean more pollution spewing out of tailpipes. Thirteen states (and the District of Columbia), representing 113 million Americans and over one-third of the nation’s auto market, have exercised their right to bring clean, more efficient cars to their communities, and these Americans rely on the health benefits of advanced clean vehicles, some of them with zero emissions from their tailpipes. While Pruitt panders to auto executives and their Washington lobbyists, ignoring the factual record showing that the standards are working and feasible, the clean car states will need to commit to working even harder to protect our air, and that of our neighbors. California and the other clean car states should move full speed ahead with standards that reduce air pollution and save consumers money at the pump.
