The Ark of Chiayi in 2018 Taiwan Lantern Festival: A Giant Carrier of Splendid and Mystical Oriental Religious Rituals
CHIAYI,Taiwan, March 10, 2018 -- 2018 Taiwan Lantern Festival, hosted by Chiayi County, is open from February 16 to March 11. The giant ark in the Blessing Taiwan area symbolizes a carrier of people's hopes. Splendid lanterns and installations offer visitors rich experiences of religious rituals from Taoism, Buddhism, Catholic and Christian practices. This is a treasure trove of religious cultures, where visitors can expect to be overwhelmed by the omnipresence of spirituality. It is regarded as the most sacred and mystical fest in this fanfare of light.
Taoism is a folk religion practiced throughout the Chinese world. In this year's lantern festival, several deities, including Mazu, Ji Gong and Guanyin Bodhisattva, are presiding over the event and offering blessings to the visitors. Rituals of worship come to live in this area. Visitors can pray to Mazu if they wish to have a boy or a girl, toss a coin in the pond to make a wish, walk through the Seven Star Bridge for a peaceful year or ask Ji Gong for a "lucky startup money (mother money)". Walking through the Nine-twist Taisui Formation symbolizes a safe journey in the winding path of life, the Bagua Sword Formation wards off the evils on your way and the Seven Star Dragon Ball Formation reverses the magnetic field effect of the seven stars, Sun, Moon, Venus (metal), Jupiter (wood), Mercury (water), Mars (fire) and Saturn (earth), to purify your body and protect you from evil spirits.
In the Buddhism section, the Wheel of Dharma, Dipankara Buddha, Arya lanterns and the giant prayer wheel present the cycle of life and the concept of reincarnation. The giant Mongolian tent turns into a museum for exhibition of Buddhism relics. A large selection of vajra, thangka, and sarira of aryas are on display. A giant ark standing 10 meters tall, 13 meters long and 5 meters wide as the centerpiece of the Blessing Taiwan area was handcrafted by local craft masters from 100,000 prayer beads. This intriguing palace-style boat carries hopes, gathers good deeds and bestows blessings to wish the world a peaceful and auspice year.
