Three Teams and Their Energy Efficient Cars From India on Their way to Compete at Shell Eco-marathon 2018, Singapore

NEW DELHI, March 5, 2018 --

Shell Companies in India wishes bon voyage and the very best to the winners of the India leg of the Shell Eco-marathon Asia 2018 challenger round as they leave for the main event to be held in Singapore between March 8 and March 11, 2018. A key highlight of the annual Make the Future event held at Changi Exhibition Centre, Singapore, the Shell Eco-marathon Asia 2018 is a unique competition that challenges student teams from the region to design, build, drive and compete to create the world's most energy efficient vehicles.

This ninth edition of the competition will see student teams from across Asia-Pacific and the Middle East put their self-built fuel-efficient vehicles to the test on a custom-built track. It will feature bright energy ideas and innovations that address the global energy challenge - how to generate more energy, while producing less CO2. Student teams that take to the track will be awarded on the criteria of who goes further on the least amount of fuel. Teams from India have earlier won the off track Perseverance and Team spirit award in 2016 and 2017.

The three winning teams from India for the 2018 competition include:

  • Team Futuramic, a team of 24 members from Sir M Visvesvaraya Institute of Technology, Bengaluru, Karnataka, participating under the Gasoline category with their car, Atharva 2.0. Powered by a 100cc motorcycle engine, the car is expected to provide a mileage of 100+ kmpl
  • Team Supermileage from Delhi Technical University , a group of 35-40 students who have come up with a workable fuel-efficient battery electric vehicle prototype expected to provide a mileage of 150/Kms in a single charge
  • Team Averera, a group of 11 students from Indian Institute of Technology, Varanasi who are designing an electric vehicle prototype expected to provide a mileage of 350 km/hr

The top teams from Shell Eco-marathon Asia 2018 will also compete in the Drivers' World Championship Asia in March with the winner representing Asia at the Drivers' World Championship Global Finals in London.

Follow the teams and wish them luck on @Shell_India
