TOM Vehicle Rental trains for gains with Mercedes-Benz Vans

Fast-growing TOM Vehicle Rental is aiming to provide an even higher quality of customer service, with the help of Mercedes-Benz Vans.

The manufacturer has just delivered a programme of specialist product training designed to provide members of TOM's sales force with a deeper, more detailed appreciation of the features and attributes of the Mercedes-Benz vehicles which form a large proportion of its van hire fleet.

The additional knowledge and expertise they have gained is now being employed by TOM staff to help their own customers choose the vehicles best suited to keeping their businesses moving, and operate them as efficiently as possible.

As the parent company of Mercedes-Benz Dealer Caledonian Truck & Van, TOM enjoys the closest of links with Mercedes-Benz Vans. TOM Vehicle Rental's 16,000-strong commercial fleet includes substantial numbers of compact Citans, mid-sized Vito models and larger Sprinters in a wide variety of body styles, sizes and configurations.

As well as detailing the array of standard and optional features available on today's Mercedes-Benz vans - including class-leading safety systems such as Crosswind Assist, Lane-Keeping Assist and Blind Spot Assist - Product Trainer Malcolm Jackson and his colleagues also provided an overview of the manufacturer's comprehensive portfolio of support services.

"Our company has its roots in after sales, so we've always understood the importance of providing our customers with great service, as well as top-quality vehicles," said TOM Sales & Marketing Director James Rafferty. "After working with Mercedes-Benz to give our sales colleagues a fuller appreciation of what these excellent vans can do, we're now able to offer an even more helpful, professional service which will provide added value for our customers."

Also attending were TOM Customer Support Executives and members of the company's National Sales, Van Supply Chain and Fleet Support Teams.

Helen Pearson, National Business Manager, Yorkshire & Humberside, added: "Learning about the technology developments and upgraded safety features on the Sprinter and Vito was really valuable, and I'll now be even better able to advise TOM customers on the benefits of Mercedes-Benz Vans."

The TOM Group began life more than 25 years ago as a single MoT testing station. It has since expanded out of all recognition and now has branches throughout Scotland and England, offering rental, contract hire and sales of a wide range of commercial vehicles including vans, trucks and trailers. Its most recent acquisition, concluded for an undisclosed sum in August, was of Stockton-on-Tees-based Transflex, a deal that saw an additional 3,500 cars and light commercial vehicles, four depots and 80 employees join the TOM business.
