SEATTLE—How will Autonomous Vehicles (AVs) impact your city? It has been predicted that they will drastically reduce accidents, decrease parking requirements freeing up land for other uses such as parks and housing, increase accessible transportation for older people, and increase free time.
Tom Alberg and Daniel Li of Seattle’s Madrona Venture Group teamed up with Craig Mundie, the former Strategy and Research officer of Microsoft, to write a report predicting that autonomous vehicles will play a major role in travel from Seattle, WA to Vancouver, BC.
The report lays out the progression of how AVs will come to dominate travel on the major highway between Seattle and Vancouver, I-5. First, AVs will share an HOV lane, then progress to having dedicated lanes, and finally be the sole mode of transportation on I-5 during the major commuting hours.
