ELKHART LAKE, Wis., Aug. 7 - The premature end to Saturday's two-hour IMSA Continental
Tire Sportscar Challenge race at Road America left Bodymotion Racing wishing for
the chance to finish what it had started.
A red flag flew with 47:37 remaining due to lightning in the area. With the field
still on pit road after waiting 34 minutes under red and 13:30 remaining of the
scheduled two-hour race, officials declared the race complete. Both of Bodymotion
Racing's Porsches had completed their pit stops for driver changes but neither of
the team's second drivers recorded a lap at speed. Consequently, they didn't have
the opportunity to better their positions either on the track or by the time they
would have gained when other competitors pitted.
The team's Grand Sport (GS) entry, the No. 12 Porsche Cayman GT4 sponsored by Bodymotion,
Delaware Investments and Trim Tex, ended up eighth. Its drivers, Cameron Cassels
of Coldstream, British Columbia, Canada and Trent Hindman of Wayside, N.J., entered
the event with a five-point lead in the championship. Unofficially they're now second,
four points behind (194 to 190), going into the next race Aug. 25-27 at VIRginia
International Raceway in Alton, Va.
After the polesitter had a problem early, Cassels started eighth. He ran in the
top 10 for almost his entire stint despite slippery conditions due to rain. He set
his fastest lap of the race right before he pitted for Hindman to take over. The
pit stop occurred under green, but a full-course caution was displayed almost immediately
with 56:16 remaining due to Charlie Putnam's accident in Turn 7. The race never
restarted, as the red came out about 9 minutes later.
Colin Thompson of Doylestown, Pa., and Drake Kemper of Thermal, Calif., ended up
ninth in the Street Tuner class with the team's No. 31 Porsche Cayman sponsored
by Bodymotion, VeriStor, the Apex Sports Car Academy and Delaware Investments.
Thompson, who was substituting for Devin Jones of Mooresville, N.C. for this race,
qualified 14th and was 11th when he stopped for the driver change. Jones, meanwhile,
finished 26th in Saturday's NASCAR Xfinity race at Watkins Glen, N.Y.
The race will be shown on FOX Sports 1 on Sunday, Aug. 13 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30
p.m. Eastern.

Post-race quotes follow:
Mike Bavaro, team owner:
"It was very frustrating. We had just put our two hotshoes in the car, and they
didn't even get a chance to race. I know we would have improved our positions by
a lot.
"The opening stint went well. We started out in the wet with dry tires, so we wanted
to be cautious and not have a problem. There were several cars that had big problems.
"We lost the GS championship lead, but we look forward to VIR. We should have two
strong cars for that.
"Everybody did a great job today. Our pit stops were good, with no mistakes. But
it was disappointing for the fans and for us. Nobody wants to finish a race under
a red flag or a caution. You want to let the best guys win, but we didn't have that
opportunity today.
"The guys who got the podiums ran well and got podiums out of it, but I would rather
have raced for my position."
Trent Hindman, co-driver, No. 12 Bodymotion Racing Porsche Cayman GT4:
"It was horrible luck today to say the least. In reality, this entire race weekend
was sort of a mess from the start from the perspective of weather. No test day,
very limited running in practice, and it only dried up in time for qualifying. Despite
the circumstances, I was pretty comfortable with jumping into the race because usually
we roll off the truck with the car very well sorted to begin with. Cam was doing
a nice job in the race, keeping us in the hunt, and the Bodymotion guys gave us
one hell of a pit stop too. Right as I got in the car I could see a pretty large
storm moving our direction and I figured it was only a matter of time until it hit.
I only made it to turn 5 on my out lap when the FCY (full course yellow) came out
and then the red flag followed. I was really looking forward to a final 20-30 minute
sprint to the finish in the rain where I knew we could make a charge. It is what
it is but just a bummer for Cam and the Bodymotion crew as we now are trailing
by four points in the championship but I thank them for their focus and efforts
on such an erratic weekend. We'll get it done at VIR."
Cameron Cassels, co-driver, No. 12 Bodymotion Racing Porsche Cayman GT4:
"It kind of sprinkled during the entire session, so for me part of the challenge
was every time you did a lap, it was raining with different intensity at different
areas of the track. That definitely made it a bit of a challenge to figure out what
it was going to be like the next time around when you got to that area. That made
you drive tentative.
"But the car was good. I got a bit frustrated there when I tried to make a few moves
on a few drivers and couldn't make it stick. I tried to take another run and make
it happen again, but ran out of time.
"My fastest lap was my last lap. The car was good and we were hoping to see what
Trent could do during his stint."
Colin Thompson, substitute co-driver, No. 31 Bodymotion Racing Porsche Cayman:
"I've never driven for Bodymotion; I've driven a Cayman once, a ST car at the Petit
Le Mans two years ago in the pouring rain, but after spending the last two years
driving nothing but cars with serious downforce, this was such a switch. But the
team was so good at getting us where we needed to be quickly. We had limited track
time with the canceled sessions due to rain, but we were as good as we could be
really. I thought we had quite a shot at gaining a lot of positions if it restarted.
Both cars were running in the top 10, so it was solid."
Drake Kemper, co-driver, No. 31 Bodymotion Racing Porsche Cayman:
"I wish we could have restarted that race, because I think we had an extremely good
car in the rain. When all the pit windows closed, I think we would have been in
a fairly good position for a podium."
