BAR1 Ready for Continental Tire Road Race Showcase at Road America. After nearly a one-month break, the Prototype Challenge class of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship returns to action at the four mile natural terrain road course at Road America for the Continental Tire Road Race Showcase. With back-to-back second and third podiums at the Sahlen’s Six Hours at the Glen and the Mobil 1 SportsCar Grand Prix at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park, BAR1 Motorsports comes into Elkhart Lake refreshed and ready. Sunday’s race kicks off the final third of the WeatherTech Championship season and will go a long way toward identifying potential championship contenders in all four classes. “The three week break was a good opportunity for the crew to regroup and give the cars some much needed attention,�?? said team owner, Brian Alder. “When you come off a six hour race and immediately head to the next race without a turn-around at the shop, you just don’t have the opportunity to do some of the run through you’d normally do post race…. especially an endurance race. Our guys do a great job, and they’re especially good out on the road, but that back-to-back stint is pretty tough on everyone.�?? “The good news is,�?? added Brian, “is everyone one is recharged and raring to go. The cars are back to square and we’re excited about the driver lineups. Mark Kvamme and Gustavo Yacaman will be piloting the No. 26 car for FactGem and Drive Capital, and we’ll have Don Yount and Buddy Rice in the No. 20 car for Gas Monkey Energy and Southwest Funding. These guys were all in one car at Daytona this year… so we’re kind of getting the band back together. It’s going to be a lot of fun.�?? Practice for the WeatherTech Championship Continental Tire Road Race Showcase gets under way Friday, Aug. 4, with the first of two, hour-long practice sessions starting at 12:20 p.m. ET (11:20 a.m. local time). Friday’s second session starts at 5:10 p.m. ET. Saturday, Aug. 5 opens with another WeatherTech Championship practice from 9:55 to 10:55 a.m. ET, followed by qualifying from 1:35 to 3:05 p.m. ET.
