Marquardt Racing: TORC Bark River Race Report
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE August 2, 2017 Lena, WI ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Marquardt Family Runs Strong While Having Fun Sam Leads Championship Standings ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ After taking the team's first Short-Course Kart win in Crandon, Sam Marquardt backed up the performance with two podium finishes in Bark River. Meanwhile older sister Kennedy continued to impress with her driving skills as she maneuvered through the eighteen Kart field during both days of competition. When anyone comes to Bark River for the first time, the first thing one see is the nine hundred camp site with not only racers, but friends and fans of Bark River style off-road racing. Among the large throng of campsites, you will find the Marquardt family along with other short-course racers from the town of Lena, Wisconsin. The group always pits and camps together making sure every race car and truck in the group is race ready for each day's event. The camaraderie also ensures that everyone still has a good time after a hard day of racing. In fact, this year, a small oval track was marked out in the middle of the group campsite for the kids and some of the adults, to have a very low speed pit bike race after Saturday night's dinner. For the first time ever the Short-Course Karts would race on the entire front portion of the Bark River layout including the Londerville Steel Hill. The addition of the hill really created a new challenge for the young racers to figure out. Round 7 Sam Kennedy started in row six and quick moved up to second as he and Easton Sleaper were the two top runners. Sam came close to the lead a couple of times, but had to settle for second at the checkered flag. Sister Kennedy was started the race in row three and quickly found the racing to be close and tight. After making a handful of passes, Kennedy finished Saturday's race in thirteenth place. Round 8 Once again eighteen racers lined up for the four-lap twenty minute long race. The mid pack starting positions of both Kennedy and Sam would take some skillful driving not only to move forward in the driving order, but to just make it to the checkered flag without a major incident. Sam was determined to continue his string of finishes as he immediately began making clean passes to work his way to the front. When the checkered flag was waved, Sam had his fourth podium in a row with a third place finish. Kennedy continued to run a great race and finished in tenth. After eight round of racing in TORC Short-Course Kart Championship, Sam Marquardt leads the field as Sister Kennedy is eighth overall in the eighteen driver field. There are six more rounds of racing are yet to come. The next two rounds will be August 12-13 in Buchanan, Michigan.
