The Fox Valley Wisconsin resident knew the unforgiving high speed layout at Crandon International Off-Road Raceway can leave the best of racers shaking their heads. After two days of racing, Chad Rayford and the #29 Kenda Tire Flying Dutchman Off-Road PRO-Light left the track with a truck that will need some long hours at shop in order to make the trek to Bark River. After Saturday morning's qualifying session, Rayford knew changes were needed in order to compete for a podium finish at "The Big House." After conferring with Mike Vanden Heuvel, a slightly different chassis set-up was put together and the red Kenda truck prepared for the land rush start. Round 5 saw Chad Rayford turn quicker laps than the qualifying effort, but after fighting late race brake issues and a flat tire, the #29 ended the day in sixth place. Once the brake issues were addressed, Rayford was confident that Sunday afternoon would bring a solid run during the Round 6 nine lap event. The land rush start saw Chad Rayford trying avoid another truck as the field exited Potawatomi Turn One. The evasive move put the race truck into a violent barrel roll stopping as it came back on it wheels just before the front straightaway jump. The race was red flagged as an uninjured Rayford quickly climbed out of the truck under his own power. The truck would need serious work to get it race ready for the Bark River event in three weeks. "Over the years, Crandon has not been very good to me and this weekend is probably at the top of the list," remarked Chad Rayford. "Thanks to the Simpson Racing safety equipment and the ISP containment seat I was able to walk away for the incident without even a scratch. By Monday we will have the truck stripped down to see exactly what needs to be done. It will take some long hours, but we will be at Bark River. Kenda Tire has put a lot of faith in me and we need to get this hot rod back on the podium." Once back at the shop the team found the design and fabrication work from Flying Dutchman Off-Road and Mike Vanden Heuvel Fabrication and Welding really showed their worth as only the damage to the chassis was to bolt-on components. Next race is July 15-16 at Bark River International Off-Road Raceway in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
