Steady Gas Prices Lead to More Local Residents Hitting the Road this Summer

Hi Carey,

With the start of June now here, the summer months are finally upon us.  During this time, many families will plan vacations that include a long road trip to amusement parks, the mountains or beach.  Car care professionals with Mr. Transmission and Milex in your area can come to you with visual props to show your audience suggestions and things to look for in order to keep their cars running properly prior to making a long trip this summer.

Here are some areas on the car our professionals can discuss to ensure a safe, comfortable and problem-free road trip:

· Tires – Show how to monitor the proper air pressure and amount of tread on the tires.  When the weather gets hotter, the air in tires expands in warmer weather, and owners will want to make sure tires are not over-inflated.
· Brakes – Discuss the warning signs of faulty brakes such as screeching, pulling to one side or vibrations that are signals to take the car in for repair.
· Battery – Show corrosion on the battery caused by a car’s fluids evaporating in the summer heat.  Any dirt that enters the battery by accident can also act as a conductor and slowly drain power from your battery.
· Windshield wipers – How to check for rips and cracks and how to easily replace the wipers.
· Air filter – Discuss the importance of changing a car’s air filter and show the difference between a new and worn filter.

According to a study conducted by Gas Buddy (http://business.gasbuddy.com/persistently-low-gas-prices-prompt-more-summer-road-trips-gasbuddy-study-finds/) , more than 82 percent of the respondents said they were planning on taking a road trip this summer, which is a 7-percent increase from last year.  A key factor behind increased travel plans is stable gas prices, as the national average is only up slightly now than it was at the start of the year ($2.34).

Here are some of the highlights of the survey:

· Gas prices for the unofficial start of the summer, Memorial Day weekend, were $2.39 per gallon, the second cheapest for the holiday weekend in the last decade.
· 75 percent of the respondents said they plan on taking road trips during non-holiday weekends.
· 70 percent planned to make at least two trips this summer.

With more people planning on hitting the road this summer, local car care experts with Mr. Transmission and Milex are making sure cars are in top condition before the experience problems or break down on the long summer drive.

Please let me know when we can set up this timely story.

Thanks so much for your consideration.  I look forward to hearing from you.
