Lyft Accelerates Chicago Driver's Art Business

CHICAGO, April 3, 2017 -- Today, Lyft announced the brand awarded Chicago-based bronze and glass artist and Lyft driver, Brittany Krawczyk with $5,000 to help her pursue her passion for making art. The donation was made through Lyft's new initiative—Project Lyft Chicago, which solicited stories of people driving with Lyft to earn income to support their dreams for the future.

"When I told my parents I was quitting my corporate job to be a studio artist, they had serious doubts about how I would pay my bills," said Krawczyk. "Fortunately, driving with Lyft has been a constant source of stability for me and allowed me to do what I love. I feel so honored to be selected as the 2017 Project Lyft Chicago winner."

More than 20 percent of Lyft drivers in Chicago are small business owners and 81 percent of those drive with Lyft to supplement the income they earn through their small businesses. Chicago-native Krawczyk drives with Lyft to pay her bills and student loans so she can invest in her studio space, materials and tools.

"We hear so many stories of drivers, like Brittany, who drive with Lyft as a means to pursue their dreams. We started Project Lyft Chicago as a way to support them," said David Katcher, Chicago general manager at Lyft. "We couldn't be more pleased to announce Brittany Krawczyk as our Project Lyft Chicago winner and can't wait to see where her journey takes her."

As a driver with Lyft, Krawczyk was able to secure financial independence so she could continue to explore her creative talents and build her business. Brittany uses her days to create smaller pieces of art, like jewelry. The funds from Project Lyft Chicago will help Krawczyk finish a new collection and pursue her ambition to create larger pieces for display in Chicago's most illustrious galleries.
