Mercedes-Benz Vito adds polish for Shine!

When business success depends on your ability to undertake top-quality repairs to vehicle body damage, you need a van that looks the part too. For Shine!, that means the
Mercedes-Benz Vito.

Shine! currently employs 40 highly trained mobile technicians, as well as four sector and three training managers, all of whom are experts in the repair of minor body damage, those annoying scratches, dents and scuffs caused by everyday motoring.

The company, which operates from headquarters in Moira, Derbyshire, assigns a Long-bodied Vito to each member of its team - it took delivery of 14 new vehicles last year from East Midlands Dealer Mertrux, and has a further 16 on order for 2017, a combination of extensions to the fleet and replacements for older vehicles which will then be stood down.

Shine! provides a nationwide service. Its vans have uprated axles and 3.05-tonne gross weights - up from the standard 2.77 tonnes - reflecting the operator's need for increased payload capacity.

Fully racked out by leading specialist Bott, they are fitted with generators and compressors.  They also carry paint mixing systems and fillers, the small 'marquees' beneath which Shine!'s technicians work on their customers' cars, and extraction units.

The Mercedes-Benz Vito has raised the bar for performance, efficiency, safety and all-round quality in the mid-sized van segment. It is available with front- or, as with the 114 BlueTEC variant now specified by Shine!, rear-wheel drive. This model is powered by an advanced 2.1-litre diesel which offers outstanding economy of up to 44.1 mpg in the combined cycle.

Shine! began trading as a valeting company 12 years ago, but the business has really taken off since its focus switched to body repairs. It has just invested £100,000 to open its first training academy and is forecasting a doubling of its turnover in the next three years.

Managing Director Dean Meadows confirmed: "Given the nature of our business it is essential that we create the right impression when we arrive at a customer's home or premises.

"Our technicians all wear Shine! uniforms and their smart, silver Mercedes-Benz Vito vans play an important part in helping us to convey an image of quality and professionalism. We put new starters in the older vehicles during their probation period, but even after 10 years they still look great."

Shine!'s vans are fitted with speed limiters as well as satellite navigation and tracking systems, and typically cover between 30,000 and 50,000 miles a year.

"The Vito has always been supremely reliable for us, while the guys particularly enjoy the latest model because it is so comfortable and car-like to drive," continued Mr Meadows.

"We take advantage of funding support from Mercedes-Benz Financial Services, which is always very competitive, while Mertrux provides fantastic support. The Dealer liaises with Bott and delivers the vehicles to its factory in Ashby-de-la-Zouch for the racking to be installed.

"The maintenance programme also runs very smoothly - Mertrux will either collect the vans direct from us when our staff are back at base for training, or we'll send one of our sector managers out into the field to swap vehicles with the technician, who can then continue working while his own Vito is in the workshop."

Shine! technicians are trained to the highest industry standards and utilise the very latest in vehicle body repair methods. Fully approved by all major car manufacturers, including Mercedes-Benz, the company has held BSI and IMI accreditation in mobile cosmetic repairs since 2010.

Like all Mercedes-Benz vans, its Vito models are backed by three-year, unlimited mileage warranties and MobiloVan cover, which includes free roadside assistance for up to 30 years, provided they continue to be serviced with the manufacturer's official Dealer Network.
