BAR1 Ready for Sebring 12 Hour with No. 20 Gas Monkey Energy Drink and No. 26 Southwest Realty Advisors Prototype Challenge Machines
BAR1 will enter two cars in the 12 Hours of Sebring, the No. 26 Southwest Realty Advisors and the No. 20 Gas Monkey Energy Drink Prototype Challenge cars. The No. 20 car finished third at this years Rolex 24 at Daytona and is scheduled for the full season of the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship while the No. 26 took the second place spot on the Rolex 24 podium.
Drivers Buddy Rice and Don Yount will be joined in the No. 20 by Daniel Burkett and Mark Kvamme. Burkett ran with BAR1 at Watkins Glen and Road America in 2015, while Kvamme participated with the Gas Monkey Energy Drink team in the 2017 Rolex 24 at Daytona.
Marc Drumwright rejoins BAR1 in the No. 26 SRA car, along side Colin Thompson, Chapman Ducote and Gustavo Yacaman. Ducote, who enjoyed a third place finish at the 2017 Rolex 24 at Daytona, moves over from the No. 20 car.
Earlier in the month, the team tested at the IMSA test at Sebring finalizing preparations for the 65th running of the Mobil 1 12 Hours of Sebring, Fueled by Fresh From Florida, March 15th - 18th. A total of 33 cars participated in the pre-race test, taking advantage of 15 hours of available track time.
“This was an excellent test for us,?? noted team owner, Brian Alder. “The track time gave us opportunity to work with the car and give the drivers plenty of valuable seat time. While we weren’t here looking for speed, each driver came away from the test setting their own personal best times.??
“Both cars were good at the Rolex 24,?? added Alder. “We’re confident we can maintain the momentum coming into the 12 Hour. Our focus back at the shop has been car preparation and reliability. We’ve got solid driver lineups in both cars, so we want to be sure our guys can concentrate on staying out of trouble and have a reliable car in the closing stages of the race. Sebring is notoriously hard on the equipment, so our prep goal has been reduced to two words… ‘bullet proof.’ I’m confident we can get both of these cars to the podium.??
The 65th Annual Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Fueled by “Fresh from Florida?? takes the green flag at 10:40 am on Saturday, March 18th. Gates open Wednesday, March 15, 2017 and remain open 24 hours a day through Saturday.

Alder Fired Up for IMSA Mazda Prototype Challenge
Brian Alder will contest the new Mazda Prototype Challenge series driving the No. 22 Top1 Oil Elan DP02. Alder, who was 10th in points in 2016, is back racing for the team he owns, BAR1 Motorsportsl. Prototype Challenge action will be divided into two classes, blending new and existing IMSA machinery. The PC1 class will feature LM P3 chassis from as many as six different constructors powered by identical V8 engines. The PC2 class will use the existing Élan DP02 chassis powered by Mazda engines currently used in the Lites 1 class of the Mazda Prototype Lites Presented by Cooper Tires, the foundation for the new IMSA Prototype Challenge series.
"I’m looking forward to the new format," said Alder. “With all the other things going on through out the weekend, I enjoy getting out and driving… believe it or not, it’s kind of nice to have some ‘alone time.’ But seriously, I really have fun in this series and we have a great partner in Top1 Oil. They’re a fantastic supporter of our team and it’s an extra confidence boost knowing we gain reliability using their products. It’s a great fit.??
The Prototype Challenge series will run two rounds of their scheduled 13 round season, beginning at Sebring.
