Haley Moody and Lee Pulliam have both enjoyed success at Southern National
Motorsports Park. Now, the two drivers are teaming up in the Late Model
Stock Car portion of the Dogwood 300.
Moody, 22, from Kinston, North Carolina, won the Limited Late Model
championship at Southern National Motorsports Park in 2014 – scoring three
wins that season. She has only raced part-time since, but racing for
Pulliam gives her all the confidence she needs to win.
“I’m excited to be working with such a successful driver and team,?? Moody
said. “All their wins show they are the best of the best and I know they
can all help me a ton. I think Lee can really help me grow as a driver and
we will work very well together.??
Pulliam, 28, from Semora, North Carolina, is a three-time NASCAR WHELEN
All-American Series national champion. He has won numerous races at
Southern National Motorsports Park since the track reopened under the
ownership of Michael Diaz in 2012.
“I’m very honored to have this opportunity to work with Lee,?? Moody
continued. “I can’t wait to get in the car next week and get prepared for
the weekend. I’m hoping we can get a 1-2 finish for Lee Pulliam
Performance next Saturday.??
Moody has looked up to Pulliam, who has become one of the most successful
drivers ever on the Late Model Stock Car scene, throughout her racing
career. Moody’s father, the late Jerry Moody, and Pulliam got along well.
Whether it was helping with cars or just casually chatting, the Moodys and
Pulliam always got along.
“Lee has always been one to come up to me and my dad at the track,?? Moody
remarked. “He would ask if there was anything we needed. I know my dad
would be proud and excited that I’m racing for Lee. He thought a lot of
him.??
Pulliam has not just established success as a driver, but as a car owner
and crew chief as well. In 2015, he coached Julia Landauer to a Limited
Sportsman championship at Motor Mile Speedway. Landauer went on to race in
the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East. Last year, Pulliam had success again with
Amber Balcaen racing for him at Motor Mile Speedway.
“Our development deal is really good,?? Pulliam said in an article featured
on Popular Speed recently
<http://www.popularspeed.com/amber-balcaen-ready-to-make-the-jump-to-kn-series-in-2017/>.
“You know, we moved Julia Landauer up a couple years ago and Amber Balcaen,
she’s going to run some this year in the K&N Series. So, we’ve had a lot
of success. Dalton Sargeant, Kaz Grala, a lot of people have come through
here. It’s just really fun when you can work with great drivers like that
and help them move up the ranks. It says a lot about my guys and the
program I have here so hopefully we can continue that on.??
Along with the announcement that she will be racing for Pulliam, Haley
Moody was also recently announced as a semifinalist in the Kulwicki Driver
Development Program, a program that has surged in popularity and played a
role in the career of rising Super Late Model star Ty Majeski.
Pulliam and Moody will both be in competition in the 150 lap NASCAR Late
Model Stock Car race at Southern National Motorsports Park on March 4th,
part of the Dogwood 300. The event also features racing for the Pro All
Stars Series (PASS) Super Late Model touring series.
