Brett Gershon, site editor at Best College Values, says that the field of aerospace engineering draws on a wide range of engineering disciplines. "Because these programs are interdisciplinary by nature," says Gershon, "even professionals working outside of aerospace engineering sectors can benefit from them." Gershon also notes that programs in aviation sciences have been included in the ranking. He adds that "while aviation sciences is not, strictly speaking, an engineering field, it is related to aerospace engineering and astronautics in important ways and typically includes enough of a foundation in engineering disciplines that graduates can be positioned for careers in both aviation and aerospace and astronautics." While aerospace engineering is focused on problem solving and design of aircraft and various other flight systems, aviation sciences specializes in the troubleshooting aspects of flight systems and infrastructures. Whatever career trajectory individuals are on in these and related fields, these online degrees provide a convenient way to advance professionally into higher tier positions.
