Keeping strong standards will save car owners an average of nearly $4000 over the life of the vehicle. The government’s robust technical assessment shows that automakers can meet these standards through 2025, so there’s no reason to weaken standards. That would cost consumers more, increase our dependence on oil and put Americans at greater risk from a changing climate.�?? A progress report by EPA and two other agencies last July confirmed that automakers are on track to meet the standards at a reasonable cost.
