LONDON—Technavio has announced the top five leading vendors in their recent global automotive night vision system (NVS) market report. This research report also lists two other prominent vendors that are expected to impact the market during the forecast period.

NVS play a crucial role during night driving. These systems improve the perception and vision range of drivers and passengers during night. Globally, in terms of revenue, the demand for automotive NVS is expected to increase at a steady pace during the forecast period. The growth can also be correlated to the overall automotive ADAS market. Hence, NVS will play a role in the wider application of ADAS and to that extent to the overall autonomous vehicle.

Competitive vendor landscape

The global automotive NVS market is concentrated with the presence of few vendors. The market is growing at a fast pace because of growing safety concerns among consumers, especially related to night time conditions, and increase in road accidents. The market is also expected to see increased demand from countries in APAC such as China and India owing to growing safety concerns, strong economic conditions, increasing disposable income of consumers, and high demand for automobiles, especially luxury vehicles.

Autoliv, a prominent vendor in the automotive NVS market, engages in the development, manufacture, and marketing of airbags, seatbelts, steering wheels, passive safety electronics, and active safety systems such as radar, night vision, and camera vision systems,” says Siddharth Jaiswal, a lead automotive electronics analyst from Technavio.

Top five automotive NVS market vendors

Autoliv

Autoliv's NVS system uses infrared technologies and vehicle motion to detect hazards in the route. It can also detect pedestrian four times better than the normal headlight range, even in dense smoke. Thus, giving time to the driver to react to the incoming hazards. NVS use pedestrian detection to predict the length and width of the danger zone where the pedestrian is positioned.

Bosch

Bosch Night Vision Plus gives high contrast image of the road ahead. The system also detects the pedestrian and forms an image on the screen, which helps the driver to identify the position and the type of object ahead.

Continental

Optimal NVS of Continental reduces the risk of an accident at night. The intelligent headlamp control of NVS helps in enhancing vision for the driver. The system checks the approaching vehicles and those traveling forward the vehicle and accordingly adjust the headlights giving optimal vision.

Delphi

Delphi's integrated radar and camera system merge the radar input, vision sensing, and data union into a single module for vehicle safety. The features include adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, low-speed collision mitigation, and autonomous braking for pedestrians and vehicles.

ZF TRW

With the combination of active and passive systems, ZF TRW has designed its NVS system. The system takes input from sensors and feeds it to the electrical component unit (ECU), producing an alert. Thus, the risk of collision reduces as the alert provides the driver with time to react.
