WILMINGTON, Mass. & HILLSBORO, N.H.—SYLVANIA Automotive, the leader in automotive lighting solutions for the automotive aftermarket and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), today announced its participation in and support of the 2016 Youth Interactive Traffic Safety Lab. The event, hosted by the National Organization for Youth Safety (NOYS), will take place at the Rosecroft Raceway in Fort Washington, Maryland.
According to statistics from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one-third of fatal teen automotive crashes occur at night, with 57 percent of those taking place before 12 a.m. In addition, data from a recent SYLVANIA Automotive and KRC Research survey showed that 32 percent of millennials have not had either their headlights or other vehicle lights changed on their primary vehicle in more than one year, and 22 percent have never had them changed.
“Parents and guardians preparing teens to drive need to emphasize that distractions behind the wheel can lead to dangerous and even fatal accidents,” said Brian Noble, marketing manager for SYLVANIA Automotive. “Specifically when driving at night when most accidents occur, precautions need to be taken. Teaching young drivers about the importance of good lighting and seeing farther down the road with value-added headlights is one of the most important safety measures that can be put into place. Every second and every foot counts in reacting to a situation, especially with less-experienced teen drivers. We are proud to be sponsoring, exhibiting and working with NOYS at the 2016 Youth Interactive Traffic Safety Lab to help educate teen drivers about headlight maintenance that will keep them safe on the road.”
For improved safety during nighttime driving, the SYLVANIA SilverStar® family of automotive lighting includes a variety of high performance headlights to suit individual needs and driving styles. SYLVANIA SilverStar ULTRA is the farthest downroad headlight in the company’s product suite. It is also designed with a whiter light which improves contrast and clarity of items on or near the road. Together, these features enable motorists to see farther down the road, with increased side road and peripheral visibility.
