Kleiman Off-Road Racing: TORC Charlotte Report
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE August 25, 2016 Wilson, Mich. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Kleiman Brothers Podium at Charlotte Kyle Wins Fourth in a Row - Cody Takes Third ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The "Showdown in Charlotte" saw the Kleiman Off-Road Racing team put on a show that few will forget. Kyle Kleiman continued his win streak as Cody Kleiman had his best finish of the season, landing on the podium in Saturday's main event. To get the drivers on the podium there was plenty of adversity the team had to overcome. Originally the TORC stop in Charlotte was not on the schedule for the Kleiman family, but thanks to the support of Ponsse and several Upper Peninsula logging truck companies, the Ponsse Ironhorse Loggers Cooper Tire team headed to North Carolina. The team rolled out for its first practice session on Thursday afternoon with Kyle and Cody turned the quickest times in their practice sessions, but afterwards the team knew something was amiss in Kyle's engine. The next morning the crew went to work replacing the powerplant. When qualifying time came around Kyle grabbed the top spot as Cody fought off carburetor issues to qualify tenth overall. When the green flag was waved for Friday's Round 11 eighteen-lap race, Kyle quickly found himself in a battle for the lead with Casey Currie. Eventually the Ponsse Ironhorse Loggers Cooper Tire Pro-Light cleared Currie and continued on for his third consecutive win of the year. Meanwhile Cody lost his brakes early into the race, which resulted in a twelfth place finish. The next morning as the team prepared both trucks for Round 12, the brake issue was resolved on Cody's truck as Kyle's hot rod received a few minor changes in the chassis. The final PRO-Light race of the weekend saw the starting grid inversion placing Kyle in the third position as Cody started back in the tenth spot. The eighteen lap race saw Kyle to hold a podium spot throughout much of the race as Cody methodically made his way to a similar position. On the final corner of the race, only a couple of hundred feet from the checkered flag, Kyle made the pass to take his fourth win in row. Meanwhile Cody held off a late charge by Luke Johnson to complete the weekend with a hard fought, well deserved third place finish. "I couldn't do it without this awesome team," commented Kyle Kleiman. "I just kept finding my way through the field without too much contact. I watched Andrew take the final corner a couple of times and thought he would leave a little room on the inside. He did and the Cooper Tires just did the rest. With one race left we still have a shot at the championship. I can't wait to get to Crandon." "We struggled on Friday with carb and brake issues, but we never got down," noted Cody Kleiman. "To get on the podium after last night is just outstanding. It's been a real battle since my incident at the start of the season, but to get on the podium is a testament to the team and my family." The final race weekend of the season is Labor Day Weekend in Crandon, Wisconsin. The biggest weekend on the short-course off-road racing calendar will have Kleiman Off-Road Racing competing in the final round of the TORC Series presented by AMSOIL as well as the Crandon World Cup.
