EVENT PREVIEW: NAPA/Walker Auto Parts Southern All-Star Showdown at

SWANSBORO, NC – After a month off, racing returns to Carteret County
Speedway on Saturday night, August 6th.
The NAPA/Walker Auto Parts Southern All-Star Showdown is headlined by 60
laps of racing for the Late Model division, which has seen a new winner in
every race this season. The track’s Street Stock, Mini Stock, U-CAR and
Legend Car divisions will also be in action along with the USAC Eastern
Midget Series.
USAC Invasion
The USAC Eastern Midgets are making their first ever trip to Carteret
County Speedway. Competitors have already praised the track for being
unique and “not cookie cutter�??. The series has had around 10 cars for
every race this season.
In the USAC Eastern Midget Series, Andrew Layser leads the points and has
two victories over Jake Nelke and Jessica Bean. Nelke has three victories,
including a win in the tour’s most recent race at Shenandoah Speedway. The
winningest driver in 2016 so far has been Chris Lamb who has four wins at
three different tracks.
Opportunity Race for Street Stocks
With the Mid-Atlantic Street Stock Series racing at Southern National
Motorsports Park in Lucama, North Carolina, Saturday night’s race is an
opportunity for local Street Stock racers to prevail.
Local competitor Jimmy Horner feels confident about his chances of victory
after a practice session, saying he has finally found some speed in his
Ford Thunderbird. Meanwhile, local racer Kyle Smith from Trenton, North
Carolina will be racing for the first time in over two years on Saturday
night.
Times and Tickets
Gates will open for competitors on Saturday morning at 11am and practice
will begin at 3pm. Spectator gates will open at 3pm. Qualifying is set to
get underway at 5pm. The green flag will wave on the NAPA/Walker Auto
Parts Southern All-Star Showdown at 7:15pm.
Ticket prices are $15 for adults and $5 for kids five and under. Boy
Scouts in uniform get admission for $10. Pit passes are available for
competitors and fans for $25.
*Race Order: *Mini Stock (35 laps), Legend Cars (20 laps), Street Stock (35
laps), Late Model (60 laps with halfway break), USAC Eastern Midgets (35
laps) and U-CAR (25 laps).
Last Race at Carteret County Speedway
Tyler Matthews qualified on the pole and led wire-to-wire to score the
victory in his Carteret County Speedway debut on Wednesday, August 6th.
Joshua Yeoman, who has finished no worse than second in 2016, finished in
the runner-up spot while Virginia racer Eric Winslow finished third.
In other divisions: Jesse Council picked up his second consecutive Street
Stock win. Michael Rouse scored his third consecutive Mini Stock victory
to remain undefeated at Carteret County Speedway in 2016. Travis Miller
scored his first Carteret County win in the U-CAR division. Meanwhile,
Dillon Spain picked up his second consecutive victory in the Legends
division.
Looking Ahead
Carteret County Speedway will return to action on Saturday, August 20th
with racing for Late Models, Street Stocks, Mini Stocks, U-CARs and
Legends. August 20th will be Ladies Night at Carteret County Speedway,
with all ladies being admitted for $5.
Labor Day Weekend, which will mark the one year anniversary of Carteret
County Speedway’s grand opening, will play host to the Advance/Kitrell Auto
Parts Labor Day Classic on Sunday, September 4th.
