Berlin-Based Germania Selects Pratt & Whitney's PurePower® Geared Turbofan™ Engines for up to 40 A320neo Aircraft

FARNBOROUGH AIR SHOW, July 12, 2016 -- Germania, based in Berlin and one of Germany's longest-established airlines, has selected Pratt & Whitney's PurePower Geared Turbofan (GTF) engines to power its fleet of up to 40 A320neo aircraft.  Pratt & Whitney is a United Technologies Corp. company.

"Selecting the Pratt & Whitney Pure Power engine was a clear choice for Germania," said Karsten Balke, chief executive officer, Germania. "The Geared Turbofan engine technology delivers game-changing reductions in fuel burn, environmental emissions, engine noise and operating costs."

"The future of innovative aviation is bright and we are glad to have Germania by our side as we look to develop our new relationship with them into a prosperous one," said Rick Deurloo, senior vice president, Commercial Engines Sales, Marketing and Customer Service, Pratt & Whitney. "We look forward to providing Germania with the most technologically advanced engine available – the Pratt & Whitney PurePower Geared Turbofan engine."

The Pratt & Whitney PurePower engine family is powering 10 in-service aircraft at four airlines that are flying up to eight flights per day and together have logged more than 3,000 revenue flights. The Geared Turbofan engine is demonstrating mature reliability levels of approximately 99.8 percent and has met all of its performance commitments from the start including a 16 percent reduction in fuel burn, a 75 percent decrease in the noise footprint and a 50 percent reduction in regulated emissions.

Germania celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. For three decades, Germania has flown travelers to destinations in the sun, major European cities, or to visit friends and relatives. Its passengers can choose from a wide range of fascinating destinations in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. The Germania-Group, including its Swiss sister company Germania Flug AG, currently operates 25 aircraft from mainly German, Swiss and UK airports.
