2016 marks the 70th Anniversary of the Cooper Car Company which was founded in 1946. To celebrate the significant anniversary the Cooper Car Club has joined forces with the Bugatti Owners’ Cub to organise a celebration of Cooper Cars. Over 70 Coopers will congregate at Prescott, many of which will be competing in classes for Sports and Formula Cars, or demonstration runs.

Special guests include John Cooper’s son Michael with the Ex Jackie Stewart Cooper-BMC T72, plus racing legend Barry ‘Whizzo’ Williams, the first driver to win an international rally in a Mini Cooper S in 1964 Welsh International Rally in the iconic 120MNP. Williams first started his racing career hill climbing at Prescott in the 50s and went on to compete in over 250 rallies, and 700 races throughout his successful career, Barry is looking forward to flying the Cooper.

The Cooper anniversary event will take place at Prescott Hill Climb on Saturday 30th July 2016 - almost exactly 70 years to the day, when company owner John Cooper and his friend Eric Brandon competed with their self-built Fiat Topolino based, JAP engined prototype Cooper Mk1, at Prescott's inaugural Post War meeting.

Since its inaugural event at Prescott in 1946, Cooper never looked back and within 12 years Cooper were Grand Prix World Champions with Jack Brabham at the wheel, in the process having completely transformed the design of the Grand Prix car in leading the rear engine revolution. Having cut their teeth with the motorcycle based 500cc Formula 3 cars, Cooper went on to dominate in constructing a diverse range of Formula and Sports Cars, at their peak Cooper were the world’s largest dedicated manufacturer of racing cars. They dominated in Formula 1 in 1959 and 1960 with two world championship titles. Also Formula 2, Formula 3 with 500’s in the 1950’s to Formula Junior and again with 1000cc screamers in the mid 1960’s. Racing sports cars ranged from sublime D- Type powered Cooper-Jaguars to compact 1100cc Cooper Bobtails and 2.5 litre Cooper Monaco’s and of course not forgetting the iconic Mini Cooper. Coopers were driven by all the great drivers of the day including Moss, Hawthorne, Salvadori, McLaren, Surtees, Hopkirk and Stewart amongst others, with customers including Carol Shelby, Rob Walker and even Steve McQueen
