Toyota Kentucky celebrates 30 years - TODAY

Good morning,

We hope to see you this morning to celebrate 30 years since Toyota broke ground on its first wholly-owned plant in North America - right here in Kentucky. Now, it has 8,000 employees and continues to grow. We'll take a look at what's in store for the next 30 years, as well as debut the newly renovated Visitor Center and announce more than $100,000 in donations to local organizations today.

Toyota Kentucky celebrates 30 years in Georgetown with an eye toward future
Celebration includes Visitor Center unveiling, $100,000 in donations to local organizations

Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky, Inc. (TMMK) is looking to the future as it celebrates 30 years since breaking ground in Georgetown, Ky. Toyota investment in Kentucky has grown to $6 billion. TMMK makes America's best-selling car, the Camry, along with the Camry Hybrid, Avalon and Avalon Hybrid and Lexus ES 350, and now employs 8,000 full-time team members.

TMMK leaders say the future is bright....

*         Major plant makeover being reviewed, including new technologies to build ever-better cars

*         Construction of new engineering building and addition of 300 engineers ($80 million investment)

*         Looking to develop the future workforce by attracting students to STEM, including a special guest appearance of a robot made by local students

Additions to the Visitor Center include the first Lexus produced in America; a new distracted driving simulator with a virtual reality driving experience; and, Toyota Gifony, which gives users an unprecedented back stage pass to an incredible world of high technology, people-powered machines and music to let you see how your car goes from a coil of steel to what's parked in your driveway and then create a music video.
