(June 7) -- Drivers never forget their first win, no matter the time or the location. The same can be said for Lucas Oil Top Fuel dragster driver Richie Crampton, who scored his first career NHRA victory two years ago at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park, site of this weekend's NHRA Summernationals. Not only did Crampton win in his rookie season, the victory came 12 days after the birth of his first child, Emma, who was born May 20 to Crampton and Stephanie Laski. Plus, Alan Crampton, Richie's father, happened to be visiting the United States from his home in Australia and was in attendance. And Crampton became the 100th driver to win a Top Fuel race. "It was quite the weekend," Crampton said. "It was not long after our first child was born, and my parents were both here in the States visiting and my dad was at the race. It was a cool day. "I had to drive the thing with a flat front tire in the first round, and getting the win was a big day of racing." Oh, yes, Crampton beat Dom Lagana in the first round while racing on three wheels. "I backed up after the burnout and noticed the front right tire was completely flat," Crampton said. "I had it in my mind that I was going to stage the car anyway and at least hit the throttle in case he went red or whatever so we could try and get a win light. "Then I figured I'd drive it as far as I could before it got too bad. We ended up running a 3.77 with a tire off the thing." That win sent him to the second round, where he beat J.R. Todd. Crampton then defeated Shawn Langdon in the semifinals and Doug Kalitta in the final to score the victory. "In hindsight, it was probably pretty risky," Crampton said of driving on three wheels. "But obviously, if I wouldn't have done that, I wouldn't have gotten my first victory that day. It was pretty cool." Alan Crampton, who came to the States with wife June, was as shocked as his son with the first victory. Fortunately, Alan was able to join his son in the winner's circle. "He was a little blown away by all of it," Crampton said. "I don't think he had ever been here for any wins. To have him there for the first one was pretty special. "My mom has missed out of them. My dad's been here for a couple of victories now, but both times she's been at home in Indianapolis with Steph, so she's missed out on a couple. Hopefully we can have her around for a win here soon." Top Fuel qualifying sessions are scheduled for 4:30 and 7 p.m. ET, Friday, and 2:30 and 5 p.m., Saturday. Eliminations start at 11 a.m., Sunday. FOX Sports 1 will carry qualifying action from 9 to 11 a.m., Sunday. Eliminations will air from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., Sunday.
