So far this season the answer has been no through three events. Steele has picked up the win in all three events so far this season with no one crossing the finish line ahead of him legally. When the green flag drops on Sunday June 12th at 3pm, Steele will be facing additional challengers as the "bounty hunters" will be coming looking to dethrone him. Franklin County Speedway promoter Langley Austin is putting up some serious money to see if anyone can beat Steele in the next 60-lap Late Model Stock Car race. "It's bounty time," said Austin. "Devin (Steele) has been dominating the opening leg of the season so far and I think the fans want to see him get beat. So I'm going to put the money up there and see who can beat him. They're going to have a tough battle ahead as he's been strong against some good competition." Austin has placed a bounty on Steele that will escalate as car counts climb higher. The track has averaged 10 cars through the opening three events and no matter how many show up on June 12th the bounty will atleast be $500. If the car count climbs to 15 cars the bounty will be ramped up to $750. Additionally the bounty will reach $1,000 if car counts hit 20-cars, $1,500 for 25-cars and a whopping $2,000 if the car count reaches 30-cars. "It's entirely possible we could be paying an additional $2,000 to the winner if they can beat Devin on June 12th. That payout along with the $1,000 we already pay to the winner of the race would make for a $3,000 payday for a minimal at track investment with scuff tires selling for just $160/set." "This bounty is unprecedented," continued Austin. "I don't know of any track or any promoter who's put this kind of money up for a bounty right off the bat. And if Devin keeps winning the bounty will keep getting bigger. It could easily grow to be a lot more money on the line and with the car count growing as well, this could be huge." While the bounty is in place, all normal bounty rules will apply. Steele must not be wrecked and must finish the race competitively for the bounty to be paid. Additionally Steele and the rest of the field will start in their qualifying position to ensure a fair fight for the money. Steele will have a target on his back on Sunday June 12th at 3pm and "bounty hunters" are expected to come from everywhere including Dennis Holdren, Kelly Kingery, Mike Looney and others.
