MARKHAM, Ontario—Honda Canada today reported an increase of 5% in May, on sales of 18,753 units by the Honda and Acura divisions combined. The Honda Automobile Division reported May sales of 17,189 units, up 8% over last year, marking a best all-time monthly sales record for the brand. The Acura Division reported May sales of 1,564 units, down 25% versus last year.
“For the first time in company history, the Honda brand surpassed the threshold of 17,000 units sold in one month. This sales milestone can be attributed to the success of the tenth-generation Honda Civic, as both coupe and sedan models continue to push the combined limits of sportiness and value,” said Dave Gardner, Senior Vice President of Operations, Honda Canada Inc. “As the warmer weather approaches and outdoor camping and boating activities begin, we are forecasting a strong summer selling season for our dependable and reliable Honda truck lineup, as evidenced by record Pilot sales last month.”
“For the second consecutive month, Acura is constrained by very low inventory on some core models, resulting in disappointing monthly sales. With the redesigned 2017 MDX arriving in July, we anticipate Acura's results to return to usual levels in the coming months," added Gardner.
May Highlights:
- Honda division posts best all-time monthly sales with 17,189 units sold in May
- Honda Civic posted a solid 10% gain on year-over-year sales, with 8,240 units sold
- Sales of the versatile Pilot continue to grow, with a 14% increase in May on sales of 683 units
