It's that familiarity and knowledge that keeps the Australian in good spirits as the team tries to get its footing in the 2016 season. "These are my friends, my best friends," Crampton said. "I worked on this crew for close to a decade before I got the call to drive the car and I know the commitment and work ethic of everyone here. There is no lack of effort. There is no giving up. We've all survived performance dips in the past and we'll definitely survive this one." With just three elimination round-wins in the first six races of the season, the Lucas Oil team is behind the pace it set in 2015, when Crampton went a perfect 5-0 in final rounds. But they know a big outing at this weekend's 36th annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals at Atlanta Dragway could move them as high as fifth in the Mello Yello championship rankings. Currently, Crampton is eighth overall. "I was doing the clutch for Morgan (Lucas, team owner) when he won Atlanta in 2009, so we do have fond memories of the racetrack," Crampton said. "It seems weather always plays a role at this race and sometimes the heat and humidity that's forecast for this weekend tends to level the field quite a bit, so we'll have a great chance to rebound. "It seems like we're very close. The main thing we're lacking is consistency, which is so important in drag racing. We've had some goofy parts and probably a little bad luck as well, but we're still optimistic. The main thing is to stay in the mix and get this thing turned around during the summer months. We'll be fine." Top Fuel qualifying sessions are scheduled for 4:30 and 7 p.m., Friday, and 2 and 4:30 p.m., Saturday. Eliminations start at 11 a.m., Sunday. FOX Sports 1 will air Friday qualifying from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., Saturday qualifying from 10 to 11 p.m., and Sunday's elimination action from 4:40 to 7:30 p.m. "We are having an exciting year in the NHRA with the switchover to FOX TV, and the ratings show we've got more people watching than ever before," Crampton said. "It's time to start showing off this Lucas Oil dragster a lot more so we can get some exposure for all the sponsors that take care of us. That's plenty of motivation right there."
