Now, Crampton and his Morgan Lucas Racing team are ready to step up in the Houston heat. Crampton qualified No. 4, taking advantage of cooler and quicker conditions during the second qualifying session on Friday night. His pass of 3.752 seconds at 314.31 mph was No. 1 for a time before he settled into fourth. "Luckily, we capitalized on the Friday night session," Crampton said. "Starting fourth is pretty cool, but as always, there is no easy side to the ladder, so it doesn't really matter where you qualify any more. We'll try to work on our consistency and go some rounds tomorrow." His quick pass came with some fireworks, too. As Crampton sped through the lights, the engine let go, creating quite a show in the darkness of the night. "We didn't quite make it to the finish line on that .75 run last night," Crampton said. "It knocked the supercharger off, and we had a little flash fire down there, but that's nothing out of the ordinary." Crampton begins pursuit of his eighth career victory against No. 13 qualifier Scott Palmer, whose best lap in Houston was 4.028 seconds at 254.62 mph. Rain is expected Sunday, but should it hold off, it would be another warm day. Temperatures approached 90 degrees with high humidity on Saturday, and Crampton's team learned from its two passes in the Houston heat. "It's going to be hot tomorrow, so it's going to be an interesting day," Crampton said. "We learned a lot today in the heat. We know what we did wrong on that last one, and (crew chief) Aaron (Brooks) will get it all figured out for tomorrow. The Lucas Oil team is looking good." FOX Sports 1 will carry qualifying action from 11 p.m. to midnight, Saturday. Eliminations will air from 4 to 7 p.m., Sunday.
