Mercedes-Benz celebrates 20 years of Actros at Truckfest 2016

As the world's oldest and largest truck manufacturer, Mercedes-Benz will once again be presenting an impressive display of new and historic vehicles at Truckfest 2016, Peterborough (1st- 2nd May).

Twenty years ago Mercedes-Benz launched its flagship Actros range. Featuring many technological firsts, it "took the trucking world by storm".

In 1996 safety was at the forefront of its futuristic design and Actros was the first truck to be offered with disc brakes on all axles and Electro-Pneumatic Braking (EPB) systems. As safety is embedded in the DNA of Mercedes-Benz, today's Actros can be specified with Active Brake Assist 3, a ground-breaking breaking system that exceeds the requirements of the 2018 General Safety Regulations and assists the driver when an accident hazard is detected, automatically reducing the vehicle's speed, within the system limits, via a stage-based warning concept including full braking.

To celebrate 20 years of Actros, Mercedes-Benz will have four special vehicles on display at Truckfest, one from each model generation and all in daily use. DN Mobile's stunning first generation Actros will stand shoulder-to-shoulder with a 2006 1861 Black Edition, a 2010 2455 MegaSpace and Green Group's newest 630 hp 2563 GigaSpace.

Joining these stars of the past and present will be a bonneted 1971 LP 1418, a 1996 SK 1834 Euroliner and Neil Yates Recovery's Arocs 4158, known as The Beast.

Among the 15 other vehicles on the Mercedes-Benz stand will be a high-visibility Mercedes-Benz Econic 8x4 tipper that meets the needs of safety-conscious construction operators in busy city centres, and an Actros tractor unit used by the Metropolitan Police's Trading Places scheme to demonstrate to cyclists the challenges faced by truck drivers in urban environments.

There will be something for every member of the family on the Mercedes-Benz stand (Q1, close to the main grandstand), including craft activities, face painting, a children's entertainer, prizes to be won and much more. As in previous years, there will also be a family picnic area, where visitors can take the weight off their feet and view the array of vehicles.

The Mercedes-Benz Twitter and Instagram channels (@mercedestruckuk) will be sharing pics from around the show, allowing social media fans to take a tour of the showground.

Visitors can also register for the launch of RoadStars, an online hub especially for truck drivers. It will feature industry news, competitions and giveaways, and be a place for drivers to share stories, tips and videos.
