ANN ARBOR, MI - April 5, 2016: Axalta Coating Systems, a leading global supplier of liquid and powder coatings, and the University of Michigan unveiled a new partnership aimed at supporting students and faculty from across the university.

The partnership will involve NASCAR, and Jeff Gordon, four-time NASCAR Cup Series champion and current Axalta Business Advisor, attended the event to interact with students and take media questions. Axalta and Gordon have a more than 20-year relationship.

Under the multi-year agreement, Michigan students will have the opportunity to get hands-on learning experiences via Axalta’s NASCAR sponsorship with Hendrick Motorsports as well as a number of student-focused engagements including events, internships and speaking opportunities. The partnership will launch with events during the Aug. 27-28 “Pure Michigan 400” race weekend at the Michigan International Speedway.

Axalta will also leverage the University’s $1.3 billion research enterprise fostering collaborations with business and technical leaders to address future opportunities in the coatings segment.
