Detroit February 25, 2016; Journalists often receive press releases and samples of new products that may be of interest to readers of their articles or columns. Early last fall I received a new product from Ames True Temper, described in their press release as a “revolutionary new Telescoping Scratch-Free Snow Brush and scraper.”

But in this year of El Nino we had no snow in the suburbs of Detroit. So it went untried until yesterday when we were hit with six inches of the white fluffy stuff. I tried it. And it really works very well.

This new snow brush features a telescoping, elliptical aluminum handle that extends from 36 inches to 52 inches using a large push button that is easy to manage while wearing winter gloves and a 180-degree swivel head to easily remove snow using a push/pull motion. It also uses EVA foam, a material commonly used for car wash brushes, rather than traditional bristles that can break down during winter, or worse, cause unsightly damage.

The wrap-around head design makes it simple to remove snow in smaller and tough-to-reach areas, especially around mirrors and wipers. The brush’s EVA foam head protects against scratches, while the telescoping handle allows it to reach more elevated surfaces for better and more comprehensive snow removal.” It worked beautifully and easily.

True Temper noted, “The EVA foam material was subject to extensive testing to ensure safety for use on fragile surfaces such as exterior auto paint. The product development team conducted side-by-side tests with a traditional bristle brush in which each implement scraped a painted metal sheet 10,000 times. The EVA material yielded a smooth, unmarred finish compared to the bristle brush, which showed noticeable, permanent scratches.”

There’s also a polycarbonate scraper that has two functions: a scraper including teeth for breaking up ice and a straight edge for clearing it away. And this really was good. It’s easy to store in the trunk with its flexible swivel head and telescoping comfort-grip handle

The True Temper Telescoping Scratch-Free Snow Brushes are available at big box stores and online too with an MSRP of $24.99-$29.99.
