Turkey's Passenger Car and Light Commercial Vehicle Market Has Shown an Increase of 26% in 2015

ISTANBUL, January 12, 2016 --

 

Passenger Car Market Increased 23.5%, Light Commercial Vehicle Market Increased 34.4%.

The Turkish passenger car and light commercial vehicle total market increased 26.1% in 2015 compared to the last year, to 968,017. In 2014 total market sales value of 767,681 was reached.

Passenger car sales went up 23.54% in 2015, in comparison to the last year and became 725,596. In 2014, the sales reached 587,331.

In 2015, light commercial vehicle market increased 34.42%, in comparison to the year before, to 242,421. Last year, the sales reached 180,350.

Passenger Car and Light Commercial Vehicle Market showed an increase of 6% in December 2015.  

Passenger Car Market Increased 3.9%, Light Commercial Vehicle Market Increased 13.3%.

In December the 2015 passenger car and light commercial vehicle market reached 156,173. In comparison to the total number of 146,989 in December 2014 in the passenger car and light commercial vehicle market, the sales went up in a ratio of 6.25%.

In December 2015, passenger car sales have gone up 3.89% in comparison to the same month of the year before and became 114,340. Last year, the sales reached 110,054.

Light commercial vehicle market increased 13.26% in December, 2015 compared to December, 2014, to 41,833. Last year, the sales reached 36,935.

In 2015, an increase of 24.52% in the sales of passenger cars below 1600cc and 2.54% in the sales of passenger cars with a 1600-2000cc engine volume was observed. As for the sales of the passenger cars over 2000cc, an increase of 9.37% was observed. In 2015, a total of 120 electric cars, of which 38 were below 85kW engine power and 82 were above 121 kW engine power, were sold.

When the average emission values of the passenger car market in 2015 are considered, the passenger cars between 100-120g/km took the largest piece of the pie with a ratio of 42.02% and with a number of 304,901.

In 2015, diesel passenger car sales decreased to 61.78%, while the automatic transmission passenger cars increased to 49.90%.

In 2015, 82.90% of the passenger car market segment again consisted of the passenger cars in the A, B and C segments whose tax ratios are low. When evaluated according to segments, Segment C with a share of 52.11% reached the highest sales volume (378,141). When evaluated according to frame, most preferred body type was again Sedan (48.46%, a quantity of 351,598).

In 2015, when evaluated according to body type, Vans with a share of 71.28% had the highest sales volume (172,788), Light trucks followed them with a share of 11.8% (28,599) while the share of Minibuses was 10.69% (25,923) and the share of Pick-ups was 6.23% (15,111) in light commercial vehicle market.

Passenger car and light commercial vehicle total market increased 26.1% in 2015 compared to the same period of 2014, to 968,017 with a base effect. 

In 2016;

  • Developments in EU economy and the decision to continue with monetary expansion by European Central Bank (ECB) in order to support economic recovery,

  • Improvement and growth rates of economic activity

will be decisive.

We foresee that the automotive industry's total market for the year 2016 to be between 900 and 950 thousand in quantity.

In 2015, Turkey's passenger car and light commercial vehicle total market presented a sales number of 968,017. In comparison to the total number of 767,681 in 2014 in the passenger car and light commercial vehicle market, the sales went up in a ratio of 26.1%.  

In December 2015 passenger car and light commercial vehicle total market reached 156,173. In comparison to the total number of 146,989 in December 2014 in the passenger car and light commercial vehicle market, the sales went up in a ratio of 6.25%.

Passenger car and light commercial vehicle market, in comparison to the average 10-year December sales, showed an increase of 44.24%.  

In 2015, passenger car sales went up by 23.54% in comparison to the same period of the year before and became 725,596 in Turkey's automotive market. In the same period last year, the sales reached 587,331.

In December 2015, passenger car sales went up 3.89% in comparison to the same month of the year before and became 114,340. In December of the last year, the sales reached 110,054.

The passenger car market, in comparison to the average 10-year December sales, showed an increase of 55.10%.  

In 2015, the light commercial vehicle market went up by 34.42% in comparison to the last year and reached to the number of 242.421 in Turkey's automotive market. In the same period last year, the sales reached to 180,350.

Light commercial vehicle market increased 13.26% in December 2015 compared to December 2014, to 41,833. In December of the last year, the sales reached 36,935.

The light commercial vehicle market, in comparison to the average 10-year December sales, showed an increase of 21.06%.

When the 2015 passenger car market is studied in terms of engine volume, the biggest slice of the pie was taken by passenger cars under 1600cc with a ratio of 95.93% and a number of 696,076. Passenger cars between 1600 to 2000cc followed them with a ratio of 3.18% and passenger cars above 2000cc with a ratio of 0.87%. In comparison with 2014, an increase of %24.52 in the sales of passenger cars below 1600cc and %2.54 in the sales of passenger cars with a 1600-2000cc engine volume was observed. As for the sales of the passenger cars over 2000cc, an increase of 9.37% was observed. In 2015, 38 electric cars below 85kW engine power and 82 electric cars above 121 kW engine power were sold.

When the 2015 passenger car market is studied in terms of average emission values, passenger cars between 100-120 gr/km have the highest share of 42.02% (304,901) and following this, passenger cars between 120-140 gr/km have a share of 28.46% (206,474).

Diesel passenger car sales in 2015 increased 22.25% in comparison to the last year. Diesel share in passenger car sales in 2015, when compared to 2014, have decreased from 62.44% to 61.78% (448,304).

In 2015, automatic transmission passenger car sale shares, in comparison to 2014, increased to 37.77%. Automatic transmission passenger car sales shares 2015, in comparison to last year, increased from 44.75% to 49.90% (a number of 362,108).

In 2015, 82.90% of the passenger car market segment again consisted of the passenger cars in the A, B and C segments whose tax ratios are low. When evaluated according to segments, Segment C with a share of 52.11% has the highest sales volume (378,141) and Segment B follows it with a share of 30.21% (219,181).

In 2015, when evaluated according to frame, most preferred body type was again Sedan (48.46%, a quantity of 351,598). Following Sedan passenger cars, Hatchback frame with a share of 31.48% and a sales volume of 228,409 and SUV with a share of 14.66% and total sales volume of 106,369.

In 2015, when evaluated according to body type, Vans with a share of 71.28% had the highest sales volume (172,788), Light trucks followed them with a share of 11.8% (28,599) while the share of Minibuses was 10.69% (25,923) and the share of Pick-ups was 6.23% (15,111) in light commercial vehicle market.

OVERVIEW OF 2015/2016; 

According to October 2015 estimations of IMF World Economic Outlook Report, 2015&2016 growth rate estimations for the World is 3.1% and 3.6%, respectively. The report suggests that 2015 and 2016 growth rates of the U.S., pacemaker of the world economy will be 2.6% and 2.8% respectively. It is also estimated that Turkish automotive industry exports to Europe which is crucial for the Turkish economy will increase 1.5% in 2015 and 1.6% in 2016.

LMC Automotive has published 2015 & 2016 world passenger car market estimations as of 2015, 3rd quarter. According to the 2015, 3rd quarter results, 2015 World total automotive market is expected to show an increase of 0.4% in comparison to the last year and reach a number of 90.8 M. In 2016, World automotive market is expected to show an increase of 4.2% and reach a number of 94.7 M in comparison to the last year.

LMC Automotive has published 2015 & 2016 World automotive manufacture estimations as of 2015, 1st quarter. According to the 3rd quarter results of LMC Automotive, 2015 World automotive manufacture is expected to show an increase of 0.8% in comparison to the last year and reach a number of 91.5 M. In 2016, World automotive manufacture is expected to show an increase of 4.5% and reach a number of 95.6 M in comparison to the last year.

According to the Medium Term Program published in October 2015, Turkey's growth rate is expected to be around 3.0% in 2015 and 4.0% in 2016. According to IMF estimations, Turkey's growth rates for 2015 and 2016 are expected to be 3.0% and 2.9%, respectively.

We foresee that the automotive industry's total market for the year 2016 to be between 900 and 950 thousand in quantity.
