BOBLINGEN, GERMANY -- December 15, 2015: Spring will soon be in the
air with the most iconic model of the new smart generation: the new smart
fortwo cabrio is available for ordering now and will reach dealers in
February. Prices start at 15,655 euros for the model with the 52 kW engine
with twinamic dual clutch transmission. In addition to the three lines
passion, prime and proxy, customers can choose from a large range of safety
and comfort details – including the new features added in the latest
facelift such as smartphone integration with
MirrorLink® (standard in combination with the
smart Media-System) or the Urban Style package (825
euros).
The new smart fortwo cabrio is the only genuine cabriolet
in its vehicle class – and one of the most reasonably priced open-top
vehicles to be had: fresh-air fun is initially available from a starting
price of 15,655 euros[1] for the version with 52 kW engine and
twinamic dual clutch transmission. Prices for the smart fortwo cabrio with
a 66 kW engine and twinamic start at 16,550 euros – in each case this
represents an additional charge of 3,260 euros in comparison to the closed
model. A version with manual transmission will be available at a later
date. A minimal turning circle and compact dimensions are defining features
of both the cabrio and the coupé.
At the
touch of a button, the new smart cabrio is transformed in just twelve
seconds and at any speed from a closed two-seater into a car with a large
folding sunroof and then a cabriolet with a completely open roof. This
enables the fresh-air driving experience to be adapted highly spontaneously
according to the prevailing weather and the driver's wishes. This
flexibility made possible by the "tritop" folding sunroof and removable
roof struts is a special feature not only in this segment. The roof bars
are accommodated in a stowage compartment in the tailgate.
Even in the entry-level version, the smart
cabrio offers a comprehensive scope of safety and comfort features. These
include LED daytime driving lights, central locking with radio remote
control, visual locking-verification signal and immobiliser, cruise control
with limiter (variable speed limitation), exterior temperature indicator
with frost warning, instrument cluster with monochrome LCD display and trip
computer, and electric windows. A heated rear window made of glass features
as standard. A wind deflector is optionally available (57 euros).

A broad
scope of customisation options – just like the coupé
passion, prime and proxy are the names of the
three lines which enable the smart fortwo cabrio to be configured according
to personal tastes and provide for an individual look in the interior in
particular. The Urban Style package lends the cabrio a particularly sporty
character.
- Black wheel arch linings, black painted 16” aluminium wheels and a lowered chassis are the key features of the Urban Style package. Building on the respective lines, it underscores the car's dynamism on both a technical and a visual level. Lowering the vehicle by ten millimetres results in a lower centre of gravity, for even better roadholding. Black wheel arch linings with smart lettering emphasise the wide track and lend the smart an even sportier appearance. Another characteristic feature is the exhaust system with chrome-plated tailpipe trim. The interior details include the 3-spoke multifunction steering wheel in leather and the sports pedals in brushed stainless steel. The Urban Style package is available for 825 euros in conjunction with the passion and prime equipment lines; the black wheel arch linings are also available separately as optional items for the equipment lines (150 euros).
- The passion line is very stylish and modern with a choice of colour combinations in black/orange or black/white for the interior. The third colour option, black/black, conjures up a stylish tone-in-tone finish. The multifunctional steering wheel in leather, the instrument cluster with a 3.5-inch colour display and the Direct-Steer system combine a high-quality ambience with functionality. Additional charge compared to the basic model: 1390 euros
- The prime line provides the interior with an elegant, classic look courtesy of leather items (seats, multifunction steering wheel and shift lever knob) and the stylish tone-in-tone character. Standard equipment features include Direct-Steer system as well as heated seats for driver and passenger. Additional charge: 1990 euros
- The proxy line has an innovative trend-setting character. Highlights are the seats in leather look and white/blue fabric. The Cool & Audio package provides for plenty of entertainment and a pleasant climate, whilst the standard Sports package with 16-inch alloy wheels is perfect for dynamic motoring. Additional charge: 3390 euros
Smartphone integration via
MirrorLink® features as standard for Android mobile phones in
combination with the smart Media-System (included in the cool & media
package for 1750 euros). This enables compatible smartphones to be
integrated into the vehicle and smartphone content to be mirrored on the
display of the smart fortwo, which offers safe, reliable and convenient
operation courtesy of touchscreen technology.
Apps supported by MirrorLink® include
Audioteka® (audio books), Aupeo® (personalised
radio), Glympse® (real-time sharing of current location) and
iCOYOTE® (community-based real-time traffic information), for
example. MirrorLink® is a standard developed by a consortium of
vehicle and IT companies which is based on a standardised interface for
transmitting display content and commands. Devices and apps are duly
certified.
