BEIJING -- Sept. 3, 2015: The epic parade today in Beijing marking the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II and the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression has drawn worldwide attention.

More than 30 foreign leaders and government officials witnessed the parade that showcased China's military strength and power.

Besides showing the latest domestic-made equipment and armaments, China also featured its domestic automakers at the parade -- from state-owned automaker Hongqi, red flag, that provided a parade car for President Xi Jinping, to BYD electric car that provided cleaning vehicles for the parade, and to SAIC's Maxus G10 that provided vehicles to parade commanders -- which is seen as an opportunity for China's homegrown brands to display their international image.

"It is our great honor to contribute to the parade through providing high-quality products, like the Maxus G10, and services," said a director of SAIC.

SAIC's Maxus G10 served as a parade car for parade commanders and media, two of the most important parts of the parade.

After the founding of New China, foreign car brands had taken a leading role in the market as China's auto industry lagged behind in technology and innovation. As China's overall national strength has risen, there has been growing interest among policymakers in developing its domestic automakers.

During President Xi's visit to SAIC, he said using China's domestic-made autos is a sign of the country getting stronger and of greater confidence. The appearance of domestic-made autos at the parade will translate into sales both at home and abroad, Xi said.
