ITASCA, IL -- April 28, 2015: The National Safety Council is accepting nominations for its annual Teen Driving Safety Leadership Awards, made possible by a grant from the General Motors Foundation. The award recognizes individuals and organizations whose contributions have measurably changed teen driver safety.

"Although car crashes continue to be the leading cause of teen deaths in the U.S., we are seeing fewer fatalities each year," said Deborah A.P. Hersman, president and CEO of NSC. "The National Safety Council is proud to recognize individuals and organizations that have made transportation safer for our most vulnerable drivers."

Award winners will have shepherded programs or initiatives that have:

Changed behaviors around teen driving

Led efforts to engage and educate teens, parents and/or communities

Advocated for policies based on the proven principles of Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL)

"By recognizing these efforts and keeping teen safety at the forefront of public awareness, we look to help reduce teen crashes and save lives," said Jeff Boyer, GM Foundation board member.

Nominations will be accepted through June 20, 2015. Individuals and organizations may nominate themselves and/or others. Winners will receive national recognition at the 2015 NSC Congress & Expo in Atlanta in September. To nominate an individual or organization or to view past winners, visit TeenAward.
