AAA: Spring Travel off to Hot Start in Illinois/Indiana

Nearly three-fourths of those in IL/IN planning spring travel trip

AURORA, IL -- March 13, 2015: Even though snow is beginning to melt across Illinois and northern Indiana, travelers are still ready to escape to warmer weather and sunny destinations, according to AAA. The majority of Illinois and Indiana residents (72 percent) plan to kick start the spring season by taking at least one leisure trip of 50 miles or more requiring overnight accommodations during the next three months.

“In addition to great domestic destination getaways, cruises, tours and vacation packages to international destinations such as Mexico and the Caribbean are also popular vacations this spring.”

“It’s clear that travelers are seeking warm weather destinations this spring as they look to escape the cold after a particularly harsh winter,” said Beth Mosher, AAA spokesperson. “In addition to great domestic destination getaways, cruises, tours and vacation packages to international destinations such as Mexico and the Caribbean are also popular vacations this spring.”

The majority of IL/IN travelers (76 percent) plan to travel domestically, 7 percent of travelers are planning international travel and 17 percent plan to travel both internationally and domestically. The top five types of vacations for IL/IN travelers include: city travel (46 percent), beach vacation (32 percent), international travel (21 percent), resort/all inclusive (18 percent) and National/State Park (18 percent).
