Sales release of the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe: A sportier choice

STUTTGART -- March 5, 2015: On the one hand, the GLE coupé imparts the hallmark stylistic values of the tradition-steeped Mercedes-Benz coupé. On the other hand, its effortlessly superior sportiness conveys modern luxury and the brand's typical aesthetic aspirations of sensual purity.

With a completely newly developed set-up for the drive system and suspension, the visual appearance is backed up by the technology. Together with the further developed DYNAMIC SELECT dynamic handling control, the SUV Coupé with up to five transmission modes offers multiple, completely different driving experiences – from superior comfort to exhilaratingly sporty.

The comprehensive standard equipment of the GLE Coupé includes sports seats in ARTICO leather, 20-inch wheels, the EASY-PACK tailgate electric opening and closing functions as well as a reversing camera with dynamic guide lines. Additional active handling safety is provided by ESP^® Dynamic Cornering Assist and Crosswind Assist, as well as COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS. Further standard equipment includes the brake system BAS PLUS, optionally available with Cross-Traffic Assist.

Popular equipment details are also combined in attractive packages for the GLE Coupé. The Driving Assistance package Plus includes DISTRONIC PLUS with Steering Assist and Stop&Go Pilot, PRE-SAFE^® Brake with pedestrian detection, BAS PLUS with Cross-Traffic Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist and PRE-SAFE^® PLUS. The Parking package with 360° camera and Active Parking Assist with PARKTRONIC guarantees an excellent overview and problem-free manoeuvring into and out of parking spaces. Night-time vision is improved by the LED Intelligent Light System which is a standard feature on all models; adverse weather conditions resulting in impaired visibility are defused by MAGIC VISION CONTROL – the heated, adaptive windscreen wiper system.

As an option, the latest generation of COMAND Online offers perfect infotainment with a 20.3 cm (8-inch) display and intuitive touchpad. The system also includes a DVD player and Traffic Sign Assist with traffic sign recognition including wrong-way warning function. If required, the customer can equip COMAND Online with the 6-disc DVD changer, Rear Seat Entertainment System with remote control, TV receiver or Bang & Olufsen AMG sound system.

As an AMG Sport model, the 270 kW (367 hp) V6 top-of-the-range GLE Coupé enables an attractive entry to the world of the sports-car and performance brand. Exterior characteristics of the new AMG Sport models include the typical AMG bodystyling with specific front and rear sections, rear spoiler lip and also 53.3 cm (21-inch) AMG light-alloy wheels. The exterior mirror housings, the surrounds on the radiator louvre and side windows are also finished in high-gloss black. In the interior, particularly eye-catching features include the sporty cockpit with multifunction sports steering wheel finished in nappa leather and the instrument cluster with graduated dials in a chequered-flag look.

The established GLE 63 and GLE 63 S AMG models are of course even sportier. Their powerfully beating heart comes in the guise of the AMG 5.5-litre V8 biturbo engine: in addition to the variant developing 410 kW (557 hp), there is also a highly sporty S-Model to choose from which is rated at 430 kW (585 hp). The perfect prerequisites for a highly dynamic on-road driving experience come courtesy of the suspension, which has been systematically designed for a sporty performance. The high-performance coupés come fitted as standard with the AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension with the active roll stabilisation ACTIVE CURVE SYSTEM, specific Sports Direct-Steer system and a high-performance braking system. The 4MATIC all-wheel drive with modified rear-biased power distribution and the DYNAMIC SELECT transmission modes promise to deliver what distinguishes every AMG vehicle: Driving Performance. This impressive driving experience is supported by an AMG sports exhaust system, which controls the entire acoustic repertoire of the powerful racing sports car.

An appropriate ambience is guaranteed in the interior of this high-performance coupé thanks to the AMG instrument cluster, AMG sports seats, AMG performance steering wheel, upholstery in AMG nappa leather (GLE 63 S upholstery in AMG Exclusive nappa leather) or the black roof liner.
