LOS ANGELES -- February 18, 2015: When 18 of the world’s most elite professional cycling teams face off for the 2015 Amgen Tour of California, America’s largest and most prestigious professional cycling race held May 10-17, they will be joined by a new four-wheeled presence on the road – Lexus.
“Lexus is known for its passion, efficiency and superior performance, much the same as the cyclists we’ll see at America’s most prestigious race”
As the Amgen Tour of California’s exclusive automobile partner, Lexus will entitle two stages of the race and supply more than 125 vehicles to support critical race roles such as team, race personnel and medical staff transportation. The all-new Lexus NX compact crossover will be the official pace car to lead the peloton of 144 riders during each stage. Additionally, Lexus will present the Amgen Tour of California King of the Mountain jersey and participate in the daily podium award presentation for the day’s best climber.
“The pursuit of perfection is our hallmark at Lexus, and cycling is a sport where fans witness that all-out goal in a profound way,” said Brian Smith, Lexus vice president of marketing. “It’s hard to imagine a more epic road trip than traveling alongside the sport’s top talent at the 2015 Amgen Tour of California. We look forward to leading the cyclists through all the turns, elevation changes and excitement of each stage of the race.”
As part of the multi-year partnership, the race winner will receive a two-year Lexus NX lease. Lexus also will serve as a premier partner of the Amgen Tour of California professional women’s three-day stage race May 8-10, awarding the winner with a two-year Lexus NX lease as well. The bold NX offers a utility-focused alternative to a sport sedan.
“Lexus is known for its passion, efficiency and superior performance, much the same as the cyclists we’ll see at America’s most prestigious race,” said Kristin Bachochin Klein, executive director of the Amgen Tour of California and senior vice president of AEG Sports. “Our partners make it possible to provide fans a bigger and better race year after year, and we’re thrilled to welcome Lexus as an important layer of that foundation, making this year’s journey through California even more extraordinary.”
The 2015 Amgen Tour of California will traverse an eight-day route covering nearly 700 miles of California’s most beautiful roadways, highways and coastlines May 10-17.
