MARSHALL, MI -- December 5, 2014: Power management company Eaton announced that its engine boosting, and fuel- and emissions-saving technologies are on 21 of the 38 engines nominated by WardsAuto for its 21st annual “10 Best Engines competition.”

“Our advanced supercharger, and engine valve and valve actuation technologies help reduce fuel consumption and emissions, while our innovative fuel tank valves reduce emissions and enhance safety.”

This year’s nominees feature a wide range of powertrain types and sizes, ranging from three- to eight-cylinder gasoline, diesel and compressed-natural-gas (CNG) internal combustion engines to hybrid- and full-electric systems and fuel cells. Eaton’s supercharger, valvetrain, valve-actuation, fuel management and emissions control technologies help improve the efficiency, safety and overall performance of these diverse engine and fuel systems.

“Eaton produces high-quality products that enhance the efficiency of traditional engines and we continue to develop next-generation technologies that will power tomorrow’s cars and trucks,” said Gerard DeVito, vice president of technology for the company’s Vehicle Group. “Our global engineering, design and manufacturing capabilities allow us to work closely with leading automakers to meet stringent regulations and changing consumer preferences around the world.”

Eaton technologies have contributed to winning engines since the inception of the Ward’s 10 Best Engines program. Last year, Eaton technologies were featured on six of the winners –including the supercharged Audi V-6, which has been a 10 Best Engine for five straight years.

“Eaton helps automakers and end-users worldwide improve energy efficiency and performance for a wide variety of engines and vehicles,” said Staci Kroon, president, Automotive North America. “Our advanced supercharger, and engine valve and valve actuation technologies help reduce fuel consumption and emissions, while our innovative fuel tank valves reduce emissions and enhance safety.”

The Ward’s 10 Best Engines competition pits the latest engines available in the U.S. market against the returning winners from the previous year. To be eligible, an engine must be available on a production vehicle in the first quarter of 2015. Ward’s editors rate engines on horsepower, torque, drivability, noise mitigation, flexibility, observed fuel economy and onboard technology.

The 2015 winners will be announced at the “WardsAuto Outlook Conference” in Southfield, Mich. An awards’ ceremony will be held in January during the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Eaton supplies the automotive industry with critical components that improve fuel economy, reduce emissions and enhance vehicle performance. Principal products include superchargers, engine valvetrain components, torque control products, fluid conveyance components, light-duty transmissions, fuel emission and powertrain controls.
