Welcome to the Next Green Car Awards 2014, from the UK's No.1 green car website and highlighting this year's best green cars.

BRISTOL -- November 10, 2014: Thirty-six of the UK's greenest new cars of 2014 have been selected for shortlists across eleven vehicle categories. The winners will be announced on Tuesday 18th November 2014.

Scientifically-based, Next Green Car uses its unique Green Car Rating to rank the greenest new cars to come to market, honouring the most innovative and well designed low emission models with the Next Green Car Awards.

To be selected for one of the 2014 Awards, new models must be commercially available direct from the manufacturer for purchase or order in the UK during 2014, or early in 2015.

Eligible models on the Awards shortlists are primarily selected for their low emissions as indicated by their Next Green Car Rating. However, account is also taken of the level of innovation, value, drive experience and design.

In addition to CO2 emissions, the Next Green Car Rating assesses the impacts of seven other emissions (including NOx and particulates) across the life cycle of the vehicle, making it possible to compare different fuels and drive-trains on a single easy-to-use scale.

As noted by Dr Ben Lane, Managing Director of Next Green Car: "With ever more plug-in models available, 2014 has been a great year for car buyers wanting to go electric. This is reflected in our 2014 shortlists, with a quarter of models being high-quality EVs. This year's Awards also highlight the increasing choice of low emission petrol and diesel cars in the sub-100gCO2/km category, offering high MPG and car-tax-free motoring".

Melanie Shufflebotham, Sales and Marketing Director, says: "For the first time, this year the Next Green Car Awards include an SUV and LCV category. This reflects the spread of new technologies and efficiencies across an ever-increasing number of models and ranges. With a fuel cell vehicle, plug-in hybrid and pure electric models featuring in the 'Next Gen' category, progress is set to continue into 2015."
