CHICAGO -- Aug. 27, 2014: Cars.com forecasts August light, new-vehicle sales will hit 1,503,640 units, up 0.2 percent year-over-year and 4.8 percent from July. A SAAR of 16.6 million is expected for the month, an increase of 4.1 percent from August 2013 and 0.7 percent month-over-month.
Retail sales are expected to make up 87 percent of total sales in August, up 2.0 percent from August 2013.
"Summer clearance discounts on outgoing 2014 model-year vehicles and the arrival of new 2015 selections helped propel August sales to their highest levels in nine years," said Jesse Toprak, chief analyst for Cars.com, a leading car shopping site and automotive digital marketing company. "We expect sales to continue at a healthy pace through the end of the year, finishing out 2014 with 16.3 million total new-car units."
