New Car Sales Strong Despite Forecasted Decline in June

SANTA MONICA, CA -- June 26, 2014: Edmunds.com, the premier destination for car shopping, forecasts that 1,358,683 new cars and trucks will be sold in the U.S. in June, for an estimated Seasonally Adjusted Annual Rate (SAAR) of 16.3 million. The projected sales will be a 15.4 percent decrease from May 2014, and a 3.1 percent decrease from June 2013.
"The industry will see lots of year-over-year and month-over-month declines, but that doesn't mean that June was a bad month for sales," says Edmunds.com Senior Analyst Jessica Caldwell. "It's important to remember that there were fewer sales days in June 2014 than in June last year or in May 2014. In fact, shoppers this month bought 2,700 more cars per day than they bought in June 2013. So the momentum is still very much alive."
