Phil Hollins collects's Van of the Year award

Ford’s Transit has been named’s Van of the Year 2014.

May 1, 2014: The blue oval’s ever-reliable workhorse was chosen by users of the one-stop shop commercial vehicle website and’s editorial team as the best van of the past 12 months, ahead of the likes of Nissan’s NV200 and the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter.

Launched this spring, the new two-tonne Transit boasts class-leading fuel efficiency and cargo capacity, a completely restyled interior, and remains tougher than ever.

Cargo space has been improved by 11% over the previous model, with new storage features ensuring easier and more secure load carrying.

Available in three different lengths and two roof heights, the Transit is capable of shifting payloads up to 4.7 tonnes and towing up 3.5 tonnes.

There’s best-in-class fuel efficiency across the engine range too with the most frugal model – the 125PS 2.2-litre Duratorq TDCi diesel – reporting 44mpg combined and emitting 169g/km CO2, an improvement of 6% over the outgoing equivalent.

An all-new cabin is more spacious with more shoulder and head room than before, as well as greater driver visibility.

The multi-talented Transit also leads the way for non-scheduled maintenance times with the time required for some repairs halved. Potential for pumping the wrong fuel is erased too with Ford’s Easy Fuel system coming as standard.

Add car-like handling and refinement to the mix and it’s easy to understand why users are so fond of the trusty Transit.

The Transit is so popular that more than seven million of them have been built since 1965 and, if placed end to end, these vans would stretch from to London to Sydney and back again¹.

Phil Hollins, Ford UK’s fleet director, said: “The all-new Ford Transit is off to a flying start in the UK having taken nearly 10,000 orders already and this important Van of the Year accolade will no doubt provide it with even further positive attention.

“The all-new Transit range has been delivered to customers over just 18 months, providing best-in-class products at a time that we are starting to see economic growth.”

Richard Lawton, marketing manager for, added: “It’s not hard to see why users of chose the Transit over its rivals. Ford set the standard with the original Transit in 1965 and it has been showing the others how it’s done ever since.”

The latest Transit formed part of a four-year transformation of Ford’s commercial vehicle range with new Tourneo Connect, Transit Connect and Transit Courier.
