Mazda kick-started the year in style selling 9,411 new cars, SUVs and utilities in January – its biggest January on record – for an 11.4 per cent market share, which is also a record.
Maintaining its position as the country’s leading full-line importer, Mazda models topped three sales segments with Mazda3 the most popular small car, Mazda2 headed the competitive light segment and CX-5 was the country’s best selling SUV.
With All-New Mazda3 now on sale, the previous generation Mazda3 has been in run-out for several months. CX-5 – Australia’s top selling SUV in 2013 - continued to attract new buyers with 1,853 January sales – a record for the opening month of the year.
Mazda2, which was last year’s leading light car, continued on its merry way with the little hatch finding 1,184 new homes in January. The result was the 72nd month since October 2007 that Mazda2 has sold over 1,000 new cars.
In support, BT-50, Drive’s Best Ute of 2013, had its second best January result on record selling 976 utilities, while Drive’s 2013 Car of the Year, the striking Mazda6, was the nation’s number one selling mid-sized import with 489 sales.
Mazda Australia managing director, Martin Benders said: “What a start to 2014! Just last week we launched the All-New Mazda3 in Adelaide to media and Mazda’s dealer network. The feedback by all was that this stunning new car is the most advanced Mazda3 ever produced. Now on sale nation-wide, we are confident that Australia’s private buyers will like what they see. 2013 was a great result, for the second consecutive year Mazda sold in excess of 100,000 vehicles. To start 2014 with the launch of All-New Mazda3 and with more than 9,400 sales lays a solid foundation for another successful year.”
