CHINA – Dec 13, 2013: Qoros, the new international car brand headquartered in China, was yesterday announced as the title sponsor of the 53rd World Table Tennis Championships, which will be held in Suzhou, China in 2015.
As the only automotive sponsor, Qoros will provide the official cars for the 2015 WTTC. The formal signing ceremony took place today in Suzhou, which will become the fifth city in China to host the championship.
Mr. Guo Qian, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Qoros, attended the ceremony together with Mr. Shi Zhihao, Vice-President of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF), Mr. Xu Yinsheng, Honorary President of the Chinese Table Tennis Association, Mr. Zhou Naixiang, Deputy Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee of Suzhou, Mayor of Suzhou City and also Director of the Organizing Committee for the 2015 World Table Tennis Championships.
The esteemed dignitaries unveiled a countdown crystal ball to mark exactly 500 days until the start of the 2015 championships, and also launched a competition to design the 2015 World Table Tennis Championship logo.
Table tennis is one of China’s most popular sports and the country’s leading players have dominated the World Championships over the last twenty years. Today’s ceremony celebrated China’s global status in the sport, and legendary figures from the country’s table tennis scene, including Chen Qi, Gold Medal Winner at the 2004 Olympics and Fan Ying, a current member of China’s Women’s Table Tennis Team joined the event to inspire future generations of players.
Mr. Guo Qian commented: “Qoros is honoured to be announced as the title sponsor of the 2015 World Table Tennis Championships. Table tennis enjoys huge support amongst Qoros’ target audience of young, modern, metropolitan consumers and we look forward to enjoying a popular and successful partnership with the tournament.
“China’s success in table tennis is credited to the extraordinary skills and commitment of our players and coaches, as well as innovative techniques and approaches to training and development. Those values are shared by Qoros and just as the achievements of our world-beating players are a source of great national pride in China, we hope that Qoros can become a revered brand on the global stage and one of which the country can be proud.”
Qoros was founded in 2007 and is headquartered in China. Its international team of experienced automotive experts is leading the development of a range of vehicles with an independent identity and a high level of quality. The factory is in Changshu, a region of high importance for China's rapidly growing automobile industry, where its all-new, highly-efficient and environmentally-sustainable assembly facility is ramping up series production of the brand’s first car, the Qoros 3 Sedan.
In the growing Chinese automobile market, Qoros has an exceptional position, with a brand identity and product positioning that is clearly distinguishable from domestic car manufacturers and international joint ventures.
The Qoros 3 Sedan made its international debut at the Geneva and Shanghai Motor Shows in March and April 2013 to great acclaim. In September, the car became the first developed in China to be awarded the maximum five-star rating in the Euro NCAP crash tests, and achieved one of the highest scores ever in the programme’s 16-year history. Prices and specifications for the Qoros 3 Sedan were announced at last month’s Guangzhou Auto Show.
