ZETLAND, AUSTRALIA – Dec 5, 2013: Its second award in less than a week, the amazing Audi R8 V10 plus has taken out one of the most significant performance car awards in the country. The Audi R8 V10 plus is MOTOR magazine’s 2013 Performance Car of the Year.

The six expert judges bestowed the award on the R8 V10 plus for its combination of “ballistic” performance, as well as everyday liveability.

“The Audi R8 V10 plus is a true supercar by any measure other than the stupid one that says life with a supercar must be tricky/frustrating/expensive to be authentic,” said veteran judge David Morley.

“Stunning performance and everyday versatility aren’t the easiest attributes to deliver in a supercar, without making compromises,” said Audi Australia’s Managing Director, Andrew Doyle.

“The fact that the R8 V10 plus manages this so successfully, and with all the sophistication expected of an Audi, shows why it has been awarded two prestigious performance car and supercar awards in less than a week,” said Mr Doyle.

The Audi R8 V10 plus is powered by a hand-built 5.2-litre V10 FSI engine that develops an astonishing 404kW and 540Nm. Mated to a seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission that delivers lightning-fast gear shifts, the R8 V10 plus reaches 100km/h from standstill in just 3.5 seconds, with a top speed of 317 km/h. Accordingly, the R8 V10 plus takes its place at the very pinnacle of Audi performance, as the fastest production vehicle in the range.

The R8 embodies Audi's full expertise in ultra-lightweight design. The aluminium body with the Audi Space Frame (ASF) weighs only 210 kilograms, meaning the R8 V10 plus tips the scales at just 1,570 kilograms.

The January 2014 issue of MOTOR magazine is on newsstands Thursday 12th December 2013.
