Another Record Sales Month for Hyundai

SYDNEY – Dec 5, 2013: Hyundai Motor Company Australia finished November in third place overall in the market, ahead of Mazda, Ford, Nissan and Mitsubishi, with total sales of 8,530 units, up 10% compared to the same period last year. This result achieved 8.8% market share, and produced an 18th consecutive month of YOY sales growth for the brand.

For passenger car sales, Hyundai’s total of 6,092 vehicles again placed the brand in third position with 12.4% market share, ahead of Mazda, Ford and Volkswagen.

The ix35 continues to be the number one selling vehicle in the competitive Small SUV segment with 1,491 units sold in November, and remains the highest selling model in the segment YTD with a total 17,351units sold and a segment share of 25.5%.

Another five Hyundai models also achieved podium results in November, with the i20, iLoad, iMax, and Veloster all finishing in second place in their respective segments, and the i30 finishing third in its segment.

Combined sales of i20 and Accent achieved a first place, while combined sales of i30 (hatch) and Elantra (sedan) ranked the equivalent of second place in their segment.

Total industry sales for the month of 96,924 were down -1.4% YOY while Hyundai total sales achieved a growth of +10.0% over the same period and a 6.5% increase on sales YTD.

“November sales results produced another record sales month – customers are taking advantage of our excellent-value retail sales offers, while our Santa Fe and i30 models both received coveted Australia’s Best Car awards,” said Damien Meredith, Director of Sales, Hyundai Motor Company Australia. “November was a fantastic month for Hyundai across the board, and a great way to head toward the end of the year.”

  • Light Cars <$25k: Hyundai ranked first with combined sales of i20 (1,204 units) and Accent (390 units) totalling 1,594 vehicles sold and a segment share of 15.2%
  • Small Cars <$40k: Hyundai ranked third with i30 (3,157 units) , while combined i30 and Elantra sales (761 units) totalled 3,918 vehicles, for second place and a segment share of 18.2%
  • Medium <$60K: i40 ranked seventh with sales of 159 units and a 3.2% segment share
  • SUV Small <$40k: ix35 ranked first with sales of 1,491 units (23.1% segment share), up +66.5% YTD
  • SUV Large <$70k: Santa Fe ranked sixth with sales of 577 units (5.9% segment share), up +35.3% YTD
  • Sports Cars <$80k: Veloster ranked second with sales of 295 units (22.3% segment share)
  • People Movers <$55K: iMax ranked second with sales of 126 units (15.5% segment share)
  • Van/CC 2.5-3.5t: iLoad ranked second with sales of 370 units (29.1% segment share)
