MELBOURNE – Nov 29, 2013: Jeep Grand Cherokee has capped off a stellar 2013 by winning Best 4WD in the Drive Car of the Year awards.

It is the third successive win for Grand Cherokee, again taking the top 4WD prize. The awards are presented by Drive, Fairfax’s respected national motoring brand that publishes in print, online and iPad to millions of Australians each week.

Drive editor Toby Hagon said judges were again impressed by Grand Cherokee’s impressive on and off road abilities in selecting it as the winner over fellow finalist, Toyota Prado.

“The Grand Cherokee continues to present great value for those looking for a four-wheel-drive that doesn't shy away from the rough stuff,” Mr Hagon said.

“Judges were impressed with the new eight-speed automatic, which helps make the most out of the great V6 turbo diesel.

“For a serious four-wheel-drive the Grand Cherokee is also pretty good on-road, which is ultimately where these sorts of vehicles will spend most of their time.”

Mr Hagon added that Grand Cherokee’s towing capacity was also an impressive feature.

“It's also an accomplished off-roader and can tow up to 3.5 tonnes, something important for a lot of four-wheel-drive buyers,” he said.

“While it's strictly a five-seater, for some people that's part of the appeal because they don't want the bulk of a larger four-wheel-drive.”

Fiat Chrysler Australia CEO and President Veronica Johns said the award was vindication of the development program that had resulted in improvements and updates to Grand Cherokee.

“Grand Cherokee was already an esteemed performer but we have continued to innovate, introducing new features such as the smooth and fuel efficient eight-speed automatic transmission this year,” Ms Johns said.

“We are delighted that Grand Cherokee has again beaten a tough field to win Best 4WD in the Drive Car of the Year awards and we look forward to even more buyers enjoying this award-winning vehicle.”
