Maserati to go as Spiderbait Tours
SYDNEY – Nov 29, 2013: It’s part of life’s vicious cycle for a cutting edge band; as the music gets louder, the time to enjoy the ripe exhaust note of a special sporting car fades.
Such is the case for Mark Maher, aka Kram, the singer-drummer of iconic Australian alternative rock trio Spiderbait, which formed in Finley NSW 25 years ago and celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2014
However, as the group’s new self-titled album sells like hotcakes on the back of a new Australian regional tour, the opportunity for Kram to enjoy his beautiful metallic burgundy 1975 model Maserati Merak Coupe has diminished.
So at Shannons Melbourne Summer Auction in Cheltenham on Monday (December 2), it is sadly facing the auction hammer.
The first owner of the 3.0-litre, mid-engined V6 Merak is believed to have been the Italian Consul in Adelaide. However the 240km/h beauty acquired greater celebrity status when it was purchased by Kram some years ago, featuring in the 2009 video clip for Kram’s solo album song 'Silk Suits' and later appearing in a photo shoot for Rolling Stone magazine.
As a factory right hand drive car and one of only a handful of these early Meraks to come to Australia, Shannons are predicting Kram's beautifully-presented Maserati to sell in the $45,000-$50,000 range.
