LONDON – Nov 20, 2013: The 2013 Volvo National Golf Club Challenge has raised an overwhelming £237,220 for armed forces charity Help for Heroes.

Volvo, which was the headline sponsor of the competition, saw 80 of its dealerships across the UK partner with their local golf club to support over 100 different events, with donations from competitors and the dealerships themselves contributing to the total.

The National Golf Club Challenge is the UK’s largest amateur charity golf competition, and invites every UK golf club to raise funds for Help for Heroes with the aim of bringing thousands of golfers together on their own golf courses throughout the United Kingdom.

The format of the National Golf Challenge is that following their golf day, the participating clubs are requested to submit the top five scores from the day, with the best scoring courses progressing to a regional final before competing in the national final at the prestigious Turnberry golf course in Scotland last month.

Hilton Park Golf Club, located in Milgavie, Glasgow, was crowned this year’s overall winner and Richmond Golf Club, North Yorkshire, finished as 2013 Ladies Champions.

Volvo Car UK managing director Nick Connor commented: “We’re delighted to have helped contribute to an incredible fundraising effort for Help for Heroes. The National Golf Challenge does an incredible job of getting so many UK golf clubs on board to support such a worthwhile cause.

“It really captured the imagination of our dealer network that it was able to support so many events across the summer, and invite our customers along to enjoy the day and make considerable donations towards the huge total.”
